This thing is junk. I’m not a cast iron snob by any stretch of the imagination. But this was a HUGE let down. Came “seasoned” in a thick orange waxy substance.. I immediately got to work removing it so I could season it with something I could identify. After a few minutes of scrubbing and soaping it down (I know, such a travesty to do to cast iron /s) it was ready to be properly seasoned. Oiled it and set it in the oven... after a few minutes the house fills with a very chemical smelling smoke. Pop it out of the oven cause it’s giving me and my wife a headache. Clearly not seasoned properly at this point. So I don’t bring it on the hunting trip I bought it for because it wasn’t seasoned.. sat on the counter for over a month because life is busy. Miss my chance to return this cheap, pot-metal Dutch oven. So today I decided to take it out to the fire pit, start a fire, and just cook it. Maybe burn out any of the weird wax I may have missed. Let it burn for over an hour, coals all around and inside the pot and buried the lid in the coals too. Let it cool, bring it in, rinse/dry it off and get ready to season it. Sitting here in my house, filled with the same chemical smoke from before. Lesson learned. Do NOT buy this pot. Also, most cast iron is black or very dark in color. This thing is gray. Almost a matte stainless steel color. For $10 more you can buy the same pot from Lodge. Just not on amazon (at the time of this review anyway). I would highly encourage you to just go to a camping/outdoor store and pay $10 more for something that’s actually cast iron and will last.
