2.0 out of 5 starsDid not work as advertised - But Leviton Honored Warranty Claim!
Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2013
Unit was professionally installed in 2011. We had a power surge last week (not lightning) that fried the unit as well as anything in my house that was not connected to a standalone surge protector. Maybe i got a bad unit, there is no way to tell. I will be sending it back to Leviton for testing in hopes they honor their $25,000 protected equipment warranty. Even if you have a whole home surge protector, I would urge you to use standalone surge protector power strips for everything that plugs into an outlet. Learn from my experience. It is much easier to go to the store to buy a bunch of new surge protector power strips than to repair or replace your appliances and electronics.
Update - October 12, 2013
I went through the warranty claim process with Leviton and finally received my settlement check today. It was an elongated process and in the end I received payment for little more than 1/2 my total claim. Their warranty excludes any outdoor equipment, so that reduced my claim instantly. They have an (in my opinion) arbitrary method of depreciating damaged equipment which further reduced the claim. Finally, they excluded a few items (which in my opinion were not specifically excluded from their warranty), but it was not worth arguing/delaying any further over a couple hundred dollars. In the end, the process was as you would expect - slow. The warranty is written to Leviton's benefit such that it minimizes their exposure. I must say that I had very low expectations and was happy that they honored the claim. They also provided a replacement Whole Home Surge Protector under the warranty claim.
Overall, I am satisfied that they honored the claim. Do I wish i received 100% payment for my loss, of course! However, they could have easily tested the unit and denied any malfunction of the unit and paid me nothing. So in the end, I would have to say that I do recommend this unit and that is why i am changing my rating to 2 stars. I still stand by original recommendation, that even with this unit attached to your main service, you still need surge protectors for every single thing you plug into an outlet!
