Another Great Book From Charles Todd

This murder mystery is part of a series that takes place in England just after WWI. The main character, Inspector Ian Rutledge of Scotland Yard has returned to the Yard after four years of war in France and is still recovering from Psychiatric issues. It is enjoyable to read a novel of an England that is in a different time. When Ian has to crank his car to get it started and when social graces and customs were rigidly followed. But intertwined in the stories are the facts of history where England's dominance in the world and its class and social systems are under severe strain and starting to fray at the seams. The Inspector deals with these issues in all his cases. In in book you see the hidden grittier side of a class and social system that he deals with as he investigates several murders and reexamines an old solved case that he might have gotten wrong.
In this book there were so many suspects it took awhile to keep track of them. But it was good reading as the Inspector eliminated one suspect after another. The author leaves you in suspense until the very last pages.
This book, as the others in the series are an absolute delight to read.
