How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

4.0 out of 5 starsSweet Modern Fairy Tale - Narrated in Audio by the Author Neil Gaiman
Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2017
I'd give this a 3.5/5, but it's incredibly well-known and well-reviewed already so I'll keep this one short. This is a very sweet, fairy tale inspired piece of shortish fiction set in the town of Wall and in Faerie. In Wall there is, well, a Wall that divides the regular world from Faerie and there's a gap in the wall here that is usually guarded. Rarely there is a market at the gap in the Wall with magical items and the townspeople mingle slightly with the inhabitants of Faerie and this fairy tale type story of seeking a falling star who turns out to be a girl, at least in Faerie, ensues.

I'll just note that I "read" this by listening to it in audiobook form. The audio book for this, at least the version I listened to, is read by Neil Gaiman, the author of the book. He's an excellent narrator and it's nice to hear the book how the author envisioned it.

1.0 out of 5 starsNOT for TEENS!
Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2020
I bought this book for my teenage daughter because she loved the movie so much! I was incredulous when I realized that it is really a smut book for adults, graphic sex scene in the first part of the book!! Don't buy. Wish I had know ahead of time - I never would have bought it.

I am a HUGE fan of the Stardust movie and have watched it multiple times, but I can never get past the first twenty pages of the book. A very boring read.

I'm rarely bored but this book did nothing for me. Got the Kindle edition. Nothing wrong with it technically. But the story was trite. I got sick of the characters. Quit reading it about 40% in. I liked Ocean at the End of the Land. But this one was a meh burger.

1.0 out of 5 stars The movie had more character interaction.

I decided to read this book because I saw the movie. Based off how much I liked the movie and the characters, I figured the book would be 100x better. The book read very much like a summary over parts that should have had more description, like between the hero and heroine. The characters were sadly under-developed: the star suddenly is in love with Tristan and he is in love with her. I know they spent most of the happiest part of their lives together on the floating ship, but that`s about as descriptive as the author gets on their relationship and interaction together. They hardly even had conversations during that time. When Tristan returns from Wall, and he finds he's love the star all along, all I kept thinking was that she was his rebound. If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with? Don't get me wrong, because I wanted them to have their happily ever after. I just wish there was some/more build up to it besides that Tristan forgot the color of Victoria's eyes.

I mean, the book is supposed to be better than the movie, right? I feel a little cheated. At least I can watch the movie to fill in the gaps.

I recently read the Ocean at the end of the lane and it was fantastic. I wanted more. This book got great ratings so I decided to try it. It's all very jolly and sweet and tongue in cheek. I almost liked it all the way through, at which point I decided I hated it.

The kindle version is essentially unreadable with alternating pages, that look to have been scanned, out of sequence with the other pages.

Too many characters resulting in horrible character development. "Happy ending" but no real resolution to the problem. One of these least well written books I've ever read, which is sad because with the plot line it had the potential to be awesome.
