I get that the premise of the story has good lessons for kids to learn, but the language and context is entirely inappropriate for young children. Book states 8+, but this is more appropriate for junior and high school students. Not because of reading difficulty, but context. Such as constant uses of the word “stupid,” like that “stupid cat”and “stupid story”. I especially don’t appreciate sexual references that have no relevance to the story like his father touching his mother’s breasts or book with naked ladies. I also didn’t think dialogue using “sit your ass down” as appropriate for elementary school kids.
