Maybe every time an author wants to start a new book series (based on a new central character), s/he has to come up with something to distinguish that character from all the characters that other authors have already created. Maybe that’s why The Lincoln Lawyer’s Mickey Haller character rides around in a Lincoln (and even bought four of them all at the same time). Or maybe it’s just that product placement, which has been commonplace in movies for years, is now in books as well. Regardless, it’s not really relevant to the plot and not very defining of the central character.
Mickey Haller is a not-particularly-successful defense lawyer who makes most of his living from the repeat business generated by habitual offenders. So having a rich client choose Haller as his lawyer seems highly unlikely, but that’s the storyline. And with any story, other unusual/unlikely situations move the story along. The story was entertaining (and occasionally exciting). Personally, I enjoyed the courtroom scenes best. But nothing particularly stood out about the book, so it was an average read.
