How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

John Lithgow deserved his Emmy Award for playing Professor Dick Solomon along with his castmates Kristen Johnson (Sally Solomon); French Stewart (Harry Solomon) and a young Joseph Gordon Levitt (Tommy Solomon). Dick and Tommy are father and son while Sally and Harry are Dick's siblings. They come to earth to study us humans. The rest of the cast includes Elmarie Wendel (Landlady Mrs. Dubchek); Simbi Kali (Dick and Mary's secretary, Nina Campbell) and two time Emmy winner Jane Curtin as Dr. Mary Albright.

The first season is spread out on the four DVDs. I don't know if they are edited or not. It has been a while since I have seen the series. Sadly, it doesn't run in syndication like it should regularly. Still twenty years later, the jokes are fresh and alive. Guest cast in the first season included Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls and Parenthood); John Mahoney (Frasier); and Phil Hartman (Newsradio and Saturday Night Live). The fourth DVD includes extras like interviews with the entire cast, highlights, TV spots and comes with a 16 page collectible booklet. I did notice that James Earl Jones' introduction to the series wasn't in any of the episodes like it was on NBC.

1.0 out of 5 starsShafted By Quality

Amazon, as we know, is the most available provider to our 'On-Demand' lifestyles.

I have accidentally purchased years ago a movie (The Martian) a second time in a different format and was unable to refund my purchase. Now i have two (2) of the same movie. Amazon doesn't make it easy.

I have Lord of The Rings purchased through Amazon Prime Video, and i see no option to spend a fraction of the price I paid to upgrade to the Extended Version. Wow, sucks to lose money on something so trivial. Why not pay a little extra for an upgraded movie? Idiots.

I saw, a blast from my past, 3rd Rock from the Sun. I started watching- despite Amazon Prime membership, and still got ads. I decided, to hell with it, $17 for 1 throwback nostalgia and sentiment, just to void ads. Excited as I was, I noticed the frame changed, like a pristine i-Phone 10 ratio, to a Polaroid from the 90's; not the SAME from what I was watching with ads. However, the $17 got me lower quality, lower resolution, lower pixels, but, oh thank God, no ads.

I write this for any idiot like I am, thinking money buys quality, and lack there of deserves a refund - good luck. Might as well use that money next time you need to sneeze, wipe yourself or pick up after your dog.

Amazon makes sure it is difficult to get a refund on a crap quality digital sale. Once they have your money, it's theirs, and Bezos is just laughing at how you give it up.

That got heated toward the end. Someone tell me how to refund a duplicate of The Martian, to upgrade (willing to spend the cost) to the Extended LotR, and to refund crap quality of Season1 of 3rd Rock from the Sun to go back to the better quality with ads. FML.

2.0 out of 5 stars Skips.

I thought uh-oh when I removed the first disc from the package and saw the excessive amount of scratches and a couple of gouges. I am surprised it plays at all and will have to replace this season. Although I have been able to watch most of the first disc in the set (I am currently watching the second with no problems thus far) there are skips and I don't know how much I've missed of the episodes affected. This is the only season I purchased from this seller (Media Discounts) and will not purchase from them again. Honestly, they should not have even sold this set without viewing it first due to the amount of damage present. Even second hand media should be viewable in its entirety. I only gave it a 2 instead of 1 because my player managed to skip the bad parts and keep playing.

both disc ran same episodes real bummer. i was looking forward to this dvd, it always made me laugh no matter how bad a day i had. at 4.49 not hardly worth returning, the postage would cost more than the dvd. will think twice about buying bargain dvd from now on.

This two disk set from Mill Creek does contain the full uncut episodes but they put 10 of them on each disk and the picture quality is VERY degraded. The price is right though.

The dvd's were okay but the box was not in an okay state when it arrived. I've purchased a lot through Amazon and I have never experienced this. It,s a shame when it is for a gift. I don't think enough care was taken when posting to protect the product as in using bubble wrap. I will not use this seller again if I can help it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Carsey-Werner holds the rights to the unedited versions. Tell them to give us the original episodes!
Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2005
Here is Anchor Bay Entertainment's response:

The issue that exists is the originally aired episodes vs. syndicated episodes. We were only permitted to distribute the syndicated version of the series, which is what is on the DVD. Carsey-Werner (the licensor of the series) maintains the rights to the originally aired broadcast & it is their decision whether or not those will ever be released. If we are ever able to secure these rights from them, we will certainly do so.

I've also contacted Jim Kraus President, Domestic Television Distribution at Carsey-Werner to let him know we want the unedited versions and although we love the show, we will not be buying this edited version.

(Especially when it sounds like the edits in episode one were made to appease some narrowminded ignorant fundamentalists who don't want women to learn about their own health/bodies!)

2.0 out of 5 stars Fun episodes, but Mill Creek video terrible
Reviewed in the United States on May 6, 2012
I picked this up for $4.99 from a DVD bin and thought it would be a cheap way to have the first season. I am not grading the older, higher-priced release issued by the studio, but this newer one from Mill Creek. The video transfer is as cheap as the price, and that is unfortunate. The image is grainy (in a bad way).

2.0 out of 5 stars clean and an ACTOR
Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2005
This is a good tv show with a REAL actor. John Lithcow who plays the dad is a theater trained actor and it shows!! Very funy and not dirty. If you want to watch a show that has people degrade themselves with sex jokes watch Will and GRACE or E Show! Third Rock is not for you!!!!

A big mistake to buy this. The humour is dire, typical hollywood, unfunny and with frequent advertising gaps to destroy any continuity. If you are thinking to enjoy a lighthearted evening's entertainment think again and save your money.
