How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsFourth graders enjoy these books in guided reading groups.

Grace Lin does an incredible job of enchanting readers with stories that also teach about Chinese legend and customs.

At least in the books I’ve read (this series and Where the Mountain Meets the Moon), Lin tells the main story with short stories/legends interspersed. They are very short, so the reader doesn’t lose track of the main plot.

I’ve read both serieses aloud with fourth graders, and they’ve loved them. I love to start a series in small group rotations and then offer the rest of the series for the kids to read. I’ve had kids finish the rest of the series on their own.

I disliked the way my book smells. Spraying febreze on books is not necessary!

I'm eleven, so I probably recommend this book 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 for people to the age of...maybe 10. I found it pretty boring

Not as interesting as her longer novels but geared well for younger (3rd grade?) readers

This is a great book for a Chinese or Taiwanese American child that is having identity issues. It's a tell of a young girl who lives as an American at school, but her personal life is full of culture. It's about her everyday life & experiences as a Taiwanese American.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Year of the Dog
Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2012
I bought this book because I thought it would provide a lot of insight about Tai and Chinese customs. It did provide some, but not as much as I had hoped. I thought it would be more metaphysical, when the synopsis said the Year of the Dog would help her realize what her life purpose was. The course of the story did help her realize what she liked to do best, but I thought the book was more of a children's book.

I got this book for a translation project in college. Being Taiwanese American myself, I had sort of wanted a book like this as a child. However, some of the events and things mentioned in the book weren't exactly very Taiwanese. And most were just very outdated and weird. It was a good simple read for children I suppose. Wish some of the events were a bit more interesting though.
