Disappointing End to the Series
Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2017
This book was very unsatisfying as a conclusion to the Legacy of the Force series, particularly after I enjoyed the previous book so much. There is a great deal of action in this novel, which I generally find boring to read. Action sequences for Star Wars tend to work better in a more visual medium. On the page, they are tedious. I would have preferred more characterization. The rapport between Fett and Jaina that was developed in the previous novel is nearly non-existent in this one. Jaina writes Fett off as "not a good guy" but in the previous novel we saw that he is clearly a much more complex man than she expected. There is very little continuation of the Fett story arc with Mirta and Sintas, making me wish very much that this final book had been written instead by Karen Traviss. Jaina is the character who is followed most closely in this book, with some attention paid to Ben, but neither of them came across as particularly interesting character's here. *Spoiler Alert*
Caedus's death is anticlimactic and Daala seems to come out of nowhere at the end of the novel. This was probably the weakest book in the series and I wish I had gotten it from the library instead of buying it for my Kindle.
