Master of Short Stories
Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2018
To know Hemingway, the man, his short stories are a means to an entrance to his muse. In many of the stories he was rough and rugged, but out of nowhere comes a story of a woman who wants a cat abandoned in the rain. Bullfighters and soldiers offer insights to his experiences. He doesn't always bring a story full circle; he just ends abruptly. Yet, the story has not ended. A reader will contemplate all the possibilities of what did and what will happen as a consequence of the story as well as the thoughts and desires of the character(s). Love and sex are difficulties where his mind and desires are not in sync, but he follows the desires perhaps to the detriment of the partner. Read them all and know the man, direct and cruel and caring.
