"Their fates had intertwined, personally, professionally. It was murder that had brought them together, and murder that would continue to poke fingers into their lives. The woman beside him defended the dead."

FINAL DECISION: Wonderful followup to the amazing NAKED IN DEATH. In this book, Eve has another murder to solve that becomes connected to her personally as her relationship with the mysterious Roarke deepens.

THE STORY: Months after the events of NAKED IN DEATH, Eve has become more visible as a murder cop. When a well-known prosecutor is murdered by having her throat slashed, Eve is asked by her commander to take the case. When the next murder of a high profile woman occurs, Eve can't find a connection between these two highly visible women -- except that both has a connection to her lover Roarke. While Eve doesn't believe that Roarke is involved, she is feeling stress because their relationship is getting too intense and close and this case only puts more pressure on Eve.

OPINION: I loved this book and even knowing the answer to the mystery, I can read it again and again with enjoyment. The combination of a mystery that matter to Eve along with the drama of the developing relationship between Eve and Roarke makes this a book worth reading.

In this series, the best books have three elements (1) a mystery that is personal to Eve in some manner; (2) Eve's personal demons; and (3) some wonderful relationship moments with Eve and Roarke.

This book is one of the templates of that formula that works for dozens of these books. Eve is investigating the murder of someone she knows and whose murder touches on those around Eve. Even more, there is some parallel with Eve herself as she is feeling out her relationship with Roarke in the murder victim's relationship with her lover. In this book, Eve's personal demons are beginning to reveal themselves in stronger and more serious ways. Finally, this book sets up a conflict between Roarke and Eve as she has to deal with how serious the relationship has become and whether she is willing to take that next step of vulnerability.

While the first book in the series is a classic, this one feels more like the others in the series. Eve's character is more defined and her relationship with Roarke is more important.

This one also has a good mystery that actually has some possibility of being figured out rather than the solution just being sprung on the reader. Enjoyable the whole way through.

WORTH MENTIONING: The introduction of Peabody.

CONNECTED BOOKS: GLORY IN DEATH is the second book in the In Death series. While the mysteries in each book are standalones, there are continuing and overarching storylines (these early book are mostly about Eve's background and her relationship with Roarke) that continue book to book. I recommend reading the series in order although it is not strictly necessary.

STAR RATING: I give this book 5 stars.

Many people think this series is ghost written. The errors in the books are blatant. Perhaps people give NR more credit than she actually deserves. Thinking that a writer would remember killing off the serial killer does seem obvious. Thus the ghost writer scenario. While the main villain dies in this book; he comes back to life in the next. However, since these books are complete, if laughable, fantasy; that probably isn't an issue.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5-stars: 'Glory in Death' by J.D. Robb

I think I’m going to have a hard time reading only one book a month for the #InDeathReadALong Challenge. Someone may have to stop me from picking up the next book in the series before next month because I’m enjoying this futuristic world that J.D. Robb has created.

I’m in love with Eve Dallas for her determination and kick-butt qualities. She takes her police officer job seriously and sometimes forgets to take care of herself. She even pushes away Roarke when he starts showing more feelings than what Eve wants in her life. I almost got mad at Eve for pushing Roarke away. Don’t you dare let go of that man, Eve!! He loves Eve and will do anything for her, and there is so much proof in this book. I love Roarke so much!!

The second book has Eve Dallas as the primary investigator on the murder of a high-profile victim. This victim is well-known in the public eye, and Eve goes after the most likely people that may have wanted her dead until another murder happens to another victim. Eve has to retrace her steps through the first murder to find out who could be the killer. The killer, though, is not making it easy for her.

I enjoyed the mystery in this story and how J.D. Robb had me going back and forth with Eve to find out who could be behind the murders. I figured it out towards the end, but I wanted to know why the killer did it, and the revealing of it was a shock for me.

Let’s also not forget about Roarke and Eve. These two have a connection that is hard to resist. There was a small blip in their relationship in this book though that had me on the edge of my seat. I didn’t want them to give up on each other. I know Roarke wouldn’t give up on Eve, though.

If you haven’t read this series (like I haven’t until recently), then I recommend you do it soon. Don’t let the 50+ books in the series intimidate you, though. I know it scared me at first, but now I’m excited to read ALL the books in the series and follow Eve and Roarke’s story. I also need more of the secondary characters, too: Feeney, Peabody, Mavis, etc.

I enjoy this series back when it first came out! Some how it had left my radar. Probably the waiting time for the next book to come out. Anyway, this book is a fun read! I love seeing Eve and Roarke relationships growing! I felt it didn’t take away from the main story line but help it. I like that Eve is opening up to her psychiatrist. What Eve went through as a child had mess her up emotionally! Glad to see her and Roarke work out their different. Let hope we learn why Summerset is so hard on Eve besides she is from the wrong side of the track! Roarke must has his reason for letting him get away with treatment towards Eve! If you like mysteries, then you will love this book. There is detailed sex screen but what I’ll call soft porn. The author doesn’t spend a chapter on the sex scene like some other authors book I had read. Overall I love this series and planning to get all the books. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I do!

4.0 out of 5 stars Glory In Death Book 2

Glory In Death is the 2nd in the In Death books , that follows main characters Lt. Eve Dallas and Roarke. In this futuristic- crime /myserty and romance series written by Nora Roberts as J.D. Robb.

As a fan of the series I have read this book a number of times before reading this kindle version. Where the first book Naked in Death made me curious about where the series would go. It was Glory In Death that really hooked me.

More for the developing rapport between the main and, supporting characters then the murder mystery. As I have other books in the series that are my favorite *who done it * the mystery aspects aren't perfect but, not bad in my opinion. It is more plausible to me to believe that finding a murderer isn't *cookie cutter* easy to find. Even for the most dedicated police detectives. A flaw I find in some crime books I have read.
That said it was a story where I 'd suspected the villain early but, didn't forsee the actual motivation of the killer. This made knowing part of the answer not a problem for me

I would highly recommend this book to others who like Nora Roberts or Crime drama's.

This was a very, very, very good book!!! But this is my third trip through this series......I'm waiting on the next one to come out and I really enjoy this particular author! The story itself is intriguing but I also enjoy very much the rapport between the main characters! Roarke and Dallas are a favorite of mine and the people she unknowingly draws to her, like Mavis, Mira and others is interesting as well! There is NOTHING boring about this series! My book shelf is full of this series but the first two I've misplaced or loaned so I bought them for my iPad! So to write a post will be difficult, but just so you know this is a 10 Star Series!

I am glad that I discovered the "in Death" series at a much later point than "Glory in Death". This book has much Nora Roberts and not enough J.D. Robb. I do love Nota Roberts' books, including the well written sexual scenes, but it is not what I read murder mysteries for. That said, this book is well worth reading. It sets up the rest of the series well. I didn't guess who the murderer was before Eve (the detective) did, even though all the evidence was laid out in an orderly fashion. And I bit down hard on a red herring and kept reading just to prove I was right (which I wasn't). I look forward to reading the remainder of the series in sequence.

"Glory in Death" by J D Robb (aka Nora Roberts) is the second in the Eve Dallas mystery series which is a combination of a police crime/thriller with a touch of romance to give it a bit of spice set in a futuristic setting. From time to time I need an interlude from my normal dose of heavy thrillers and literary fiction and as long as I take the futuristic setting as part of the scenery then I am enjoying the series so far. But there is a long way to go because #38 in the series was released last month.

Lt. Eve Dallas is a very tough, competent and independent homicide detective who fights to find all kinds of killers. Her independence is being tested with her unusual but increasingly emotional and passionate relationship with charming Irish multi-millionaire, Roarke, whose successful business dealings sometimes seem to verge on being shady.

Prosecuting Attorney Cicely Towers, a well respected, powerful, well known and talented lawyer, is found dead with her throat slashed. What is surprising is that the murder is in a sleazy part of town and Towers has turned off all tracking devices prior to her meeting with the killer. Even though she is not senior, her Captain makes her as primary to work the case because he and his wife had a close relationship with the deceased. The case is adrenaline to the media which goes into overdrive when a beautiful, TV actress is found with her throat cut on the rear patio of her apartment building. It is clear to everyone that it is the same killer and Eve believes that she is in a race against time to find the killer an prevent another killing.

While Roarke knows both victims he has the perfect alibi, he was in bed with Eve at the time of the murder. Because there are few clues, after a profiling session with the police psychologist, Eve goes to a trusted media personality and gives an interview that sets herself up as a target for the killer.

Once again Roarke's contacts help Eve with the case which brings them closer together despite her discomfort at living a life of luxury not suited to a dedicated cop. The episode when Roarke flies an exhausted Eve to his incredible mansion on the cliffs in Mexico is a bit of magic.

I am not quite sure if I really understand or appreciate the futuristic setting with robots, auto-chefs and fast air and interplanetary travel. Basically these are most enjoyable detective novels with a bit of romantic spice which really don't need the futuristic distractions. I will keep reading the next in the series as this one gave me the interlude I needed.

Even though there have been 50 something stories in this series I cannot get my fill. I love to reread this series. I use a library app for some of the books and there is always a waiting list for all of them. The love story is the very best part. Eve and Roarke have the best chemistry of any couple in print. There early love is just so addicting and special. As the series progresses the extra characters make you keep coming back for more. This series is highly recommended.

Science fiction police procedural
This is the second novel in J.D. Robb's (Nora Roberts') best-selling In Death series about Lieutenant Eve Dallas and Roarke. Dr Mira, Captain Feeney, Commander Whitney, Nadine First, and Eve's future partner, Peabody are all center stage. In the middle of a series of homicides, Eve admits - kicking and struggling all the way - she loves Roarke even as the dreams from her suppressed childhood begin to haunt her dreams. An important milestone in Eve's career and life.
This is my fourth time reading this series. It's that good. Recommended.

Eve is thrust into the spotlight when she needs to catch a killer. It started with a PA (prosecuting attorney). Who was murdered in a rainy day. Then things take a turn when an up and coming actress is also killed. What was their connection? Who is next? Can Roarke keep her safe? Their own on going romance has its bumps and could possibly halt in this case.
