Lose the woodworking and sound effects!
Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2020
I'm only a third through. I'm really enjoying the story line, but I put the book down to go write a review because two things are driving me batty, the sound effects and the woodworking. I'm married to a woodcrafter, so at first I really enjoyed that part, but eventually it started getting in my nerves. The sound effects are annoying while reading, but at least when reading I can skim over the italics. While listening to the audiobook it's MADDENING, not to mention wasting my time while the narrator tries desperately to make the written noises. Makes me wonder if there was an editor involved with this book. Surely a good editor could have headed this problem off before it hit print. In fairness to the author, though, the story is good enough to continue reading in spite of these shortcomings.
