5.0 out of 5 starsWhen people would look at me funny when I would tell them I had signs Chad ...
Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2016
After losing my son of 37 yrs, to a car accident several months ago, this book gave me hope and a willingness to accept my fate.
When people would look at me funny when I would tell them I had signs Chad was still with me, I thought I must be losing my mind until I read this book.
A parent never gets over this type of tragedy, but it's more bearable when you understand they have just moved on but not forgotten. They are still there for you and you still need to be here for them. Send them your love and prayers.
It was two weeks before my first sign because I was in such horrendous grief that I just wanted to go and be with him to make sure he was OK. I really believe he got through to me to save my life. And to this day, even though some days are so hard to get through, he still lets me know he's around. I had a dream--he didn't speak, but he looked as if peace surrounded him and a beautiful smile. I asked him in the dream if he was coming back, and the dream ended.
Keep your heart open---they want to reach you and let you know they are in a better place of peace and learning. Become aware because even the smallest of co-incidences can be a sign. I saw 3 double rainbows in three consecutive days, which is not common at all in the desert region, which Chad loved seeing when he was of this earth. They are rare but do happen. My garden bloomed profusely this summer and fall, better than they ever did and longer than the season usually allows (Chad knew I loved my gardens).
We will see tour loved ones again, and the bonds of love never die.

Chad has only been on his new journey for several months now, but I feel blessed to have so many signs.

3.0 out of 5 starsPractical Advice with Some Interesting Stories
Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2013
All in all, I believe the book was worthwhile. The anecdotal stories sometimes aren't as practical as one would like and seem a bit like a sales pitch, but there are practical exercises and insights that are helpful.

James Van Praagh’s books have given me comfort, insight, closure and a profound sense of gratitude for this never ending life. No matter your situation, you either have or will lose someone you love. This author/psychic medium will help you through inevitable grief.
*(On a personal note, someone I know in real life has been mentioned in one of his books. He really is as genuine as he appears🦋)

I wish this book had been in print years ago, the first time I had to cope with the loss of a loved one, and was floundering in pain. "Healing Grief" is overflowing with helpful information from simple exercises to help you heal to a special section of the more frequently asked questions. The author says his desire is for the reader to " get back to living your life with an added awareness of loss and grieving". You may find situations very similar to your own challenges. His list of ways to help yourself on pages 263-264, are beautifully crafted to comfort, ease the pain, and move you through moments daily. For example: "carry on your loved one's memory by finishing an activity that he or she started but wasn't able to complete:"and make a list of things that make you laugh. Know that the person who passed would want you to be happy;" and say something nice to a stranger today;" and remember that everyone grieves differently, and some not at all. Each of us is a unique, individualistic creature of God; "and forgive yourself for being upset or angry. The most important thing is to feel. It is okay if someone else doesn't understand your hurt;" and get a little more sleep and look forward to your dreams." James Van Praagh shares his own anguish and recovery from his mother's death, as well as stories of others, and how they handled the healing process. Yes, he attributes the wisdom contained in the book to his "guides, and those on the other side of heaven". This book far surpasses his previous "Talking to Heaven" and "Reaching to Heaven". I gave copies of this book to my five step-daughters who are experiencing the recent loss of their beloved mother. It says what I would like to say; but James Van Praagh says it better. Highly recommended! Wonderful spiritual stories and lessons to help heal the heart. Beneficial to those who need to remember that they are not alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grief is Such a Devastating Emotion
Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2000

"Healing Grief" is the most important book written so far by James Van Praagh, because grief is such a devastating emotion. We cannot imagine our life without our loved one who has been taken and nothing will bring him or her back. In my homeland, Estonia, at the end of WWII, in the fall of 1944, when the Germans retreated and the Russians advanced toward Berlin, my father, who served in the Red Army, visited with us briefly. He had been mobilized four years before, and we hadn't heard of him in all those years, and now he was with us. The hope that one day we will be all together was revived... Two days passed quickly and he went back to war. Two weeks after he left, we received the official announcement that he was killed in battle. I was 10 years old. I wore my heart on my sleeve and declared my personal war against God. Of course, I never won it, but my anger, bitterness and vulnerability almost ruined my life. And in a materialist society it took decades until the idea of the eternal life of the soul reached my consciousness and started slow but steady healing.
Read James Van Praagh's "Healing Grief." This book will teach you not to harm yourself or the soul of your loved one in its transition. Over and over again this book will prove that the soul lives on and one day you will meet your loved one again. "Healing Grief" will remind you that you are not alone, it will help you let your pain and anger go, move on with your life and get in touch with your wisdom -- it is there, in your heart, buried under the pain, its voice can be heard, if you only try... END

4.0 out of 5 stars Loss and Grief

Overall, I like this book. It has helped somewhat in me addressing my current grief over the loss of my father. I like the fact that James incorporated real readings/stories to demonstrate his points throughout. It also helped me realize I'm not the only one out there who has ever suffered loss and it gives me hope that we all really do go to a better place when our bodies die. My only issue with the book is the past life references - not sure I'm completely sold on that sort of mumbo jumbo....but I never like to discount people who do believe in it....I did read through it, just wasn't sold on it. And, it did make the book more interesting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Words of Comfort
Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2009

Whether you are a "believer" or a "skeptic," I think this book can provide substantial comfort to almost anyone who has lost a loved one. Over the past 25 years or so, I have read a number of books by various psychics who are gifted with the ability to communicate with spirits. I do not know why some of these psychics actually wrote their books; in some cases I think they may have simply been on an "ego trip." However, with Mr. Van Praagh's book, I believe his intention is to reassure his readers that their departed loved ones are still "alive," although in another dimension, and that eventually they will be reunited with them. I think Mr. Van Praagh has organized his material exceptionally well, according to the questions/concerns he has heard expressed by ordinary folks who have attended his seminars and demonstrations. I recently lost my loved one, and this book helped me to cope with my grief.

This book was everything I expected and more, It was in brand new condition, The book really helped me deal with the different kinds of grief, that I had been surpressing, It covered a wide range of grief, anywhere from losing your best friend, Your parent, and most importantly to me Divorce, it was refreshing to know that what I was feeling was normal, and at the sametime let me know that my loved ones who had passed on were really still with me, even though I can not see them or touch them. It made sense of things that I have personally experieced, and made me realize to move on you need to let go. I think its a wonderful read, personally couldnt put it down once I started it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book gave me peace

My son died 11/21/12, the pain of loosing a child makes you feel like you cannot go on, it is all consuming. Healing grief let me know that he is near me and that I will be with him again someday. There is no magic that makes all your pain go away but at least I can function and focus on my remaining son and my grandchildren. I still cry everyday but it is because I miss his company. I recomend this book to anyone who has lost a loved one, it will bring you the peace you need and give you the hope of better days.

An excerpt was read from this book at the Service of Remembrance at Hospice. The excerpt from this book touched my son deeply and I knew I had to have this book. I am familiar with the author (James van Praagh) so I searched for this book. All I could find was a paperback and I wanted the hard copy. I did find it here and for anyone who has lost a loved one, this book is great. It has real life stories and situations and it is good reading and comforting for the loss of a loved one. It is indeed, Healing Grief!
