A book perhaps you don't need

I have written reviews of Castaneda's other books, all rated 5-stars. This one is very different! It is not a book in the eight book series, but a collection of quotes from each of the other books arranged, chapter by chapter, book by book. I'm not sorry I have it, but by itself it contributes nothing - kind of a nice summary if you want to look something up for some reason. For example, on page 205 we find: "The Eagle's gift of freedom is not a bestowal, it is a chance to have a chance." I know what that means because of have read the book, The Eagle's Gift. The very understanding of what is meant by 'freedom' is deep; the power which is called the eagle is not an eagle and has nothing to do with an eagle. In short, this is not a book to buy except as a sort of set of notes as to the high points of each of Castaneda's writings.

Knowledge is power, therefore awareness must not be extended further than society wants to go.

its a very nice synopsis of castanedas books. i have read them all and now i can read a page a day to refresh my memory on the important life issues discussed within the series. i convert castanedas message into christian thought even though don juan would disagree. i find it all to be good psychology for aging gracefully. i've considered these books since i was twenty years old and now am sixty three. since i have studied this older gentleman's philosophy i look forward to aging.

I have read all of Carlos Castaneda's books. This is a synopses of all his books. Each chapter of this book is dedicated to a particular book. The important thoughts in each book are given as a paragraph in this one. He also explains where he was in learning to be a Shaman when he wrote his previous books. This gets rid of all the confusing thoughts he was having at the time. This book is like the Cliff Notes for Shakespeare. I wish I had this when I was reading his other books. Every one who is reading now, or wants to read his books should consider this one a "must have".
