Skyrocketing price + fewer berries = I'M DONE!
Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2015
When I first began buying this cereal through Amazon's Subscribe & Save program, it cost me under $24 for a package of 6... and I was blown away! Sure, $4/bag isn't exactly cheap, but the cereal was FANTASTIC. It was absolutely loaded with delicious red raspberries and was easily the best muesli I have ever had. If I remember correctly, it was also the #1 seller in its category at that time, so I wasn't the only person succumbing to the temptation of "Berries Temptation".
Unfortunately, something's gone wrong in Seitenbacher land. The price has gradually crept upward AND the quality has gone drastically downhill. My last order cost about $38 for a package of 6, so it had gotten kind of pricey. (And I see that the current price is now $55 or so, and that's simply ridiculous.) What convinced me to cancel my Subscribe & Save subscription, though, wasn't so much the price as it was the near total absence of raspberries in the last batch. Where a bowl of this stuff used to be loaded with raspberries, now a typical bowl has 3 or 4. Yes, 3 or 4 raspberries in a large bowl of cereal! Sheesh, it was the raspberries that made it special. Take those away and I'm every bit as happy with a bowl of Bob's Red Mill Old Country Muesli -- at a fraction of the stratospheric price of this stuff.
Heck, I don't know.... maybe they had a bad raspberry harvest in Deutschland last year and Seitenbacher is simply responding to market conditions. At close to $10/bag, though, I doubt they'll sell a lot of this stuff... and with hardly any raspberries any more, I doubt they'll get any repeat orders from the people who are silly enough to pay that much.
Bottom line, I am giving Seitenbacher the raspberry. They've ruined a truly great cereal.
