Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2013
Conner Lindsey is PISSED! His betrothed, Deirde Chatten has been seduced and tossed aside by the enemy clan. He has worked two years to bring this betrothal to pass. Being a bastard Laird he cannot allow the legitimacy of his heirs to be questioned. Her loyalty would always be suspect. The third Chattan daughter, Brina, is being escorted by her father to the convent. She has been promised to the order since birth. She has been raised with no other goal in mind. Conner decides he will have another Chattan daughter to fill the contract with the Chattan's. He kidnaps her from her father intending to marry her. She refuses to wed him. She will dishonor her father by not fulfilling her obligation to the church. Conner will not force her nor will he let her go. So Laird Lindsey feels challenged to change her mind and Brina fights to thwart his advances.
I loved the characters. There is a strength and honor among the the Laird, daughter, and father to be admired. The hero, constantly aware of the big picture, tries to insure the honor and happiness of all involved. The secondary characters are also very strong players, in particular Laird and Earl, Quinton Cameron. Look for him in the next book, Highland Heat.
If you have read , To Conquer a Highlander, you must continue with the series and read this one next. You will love it as I did! If you love Highlanders, read the first book, ( To Conquer a Highlander ). You will be anxious to get this second book in the series.
I must tell you, this is a new author for me. I discovered her by reading a free read I was offered. Do not foolishly pass over any free reads offered. Read the promotional material thoroughly. You just might find a wonderful author costing only your time.
