I'm not much a legal drama guy or so I thought until I read all three of the preceding Mickey Haller books. With The Fifth Witness, I guess I am now really into this genre or maybe it's Connelly's writing. I enjoyed the others in the series but this one was right in my wheel house. Not only does the bossy and borderline unlikeable female teacher strike a cord with me but the seemingly all too real scenario of her being accused of murdering someone who could be responsible for her home foreclosure feel a little too close to home. By the time I was halfway through with this, I was committed to not only the story but to the characters (something that happened to me in the Bosch series).
If you're looking at this for a one time read - you're in good shape having not read the others. But if you think you're going to enjoy it, why not start with the first of the series? If you're going to take a ride with The Lincoln Lawyer - you might as well go the distance. Alright, alright, alright!
