How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we donโ€™t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

I have owned this book for quite a while and occasionally reread it when I need a quick and sweet reading fix.
I hadn't realized that it had ever been made into a movie and came across it when browsing for a movie to watch on my kindle.
I was surprised at how many famous people turned up in this!
Well, I did enjoy it to an extent. Seeing the book come to life was moderately enjoyable. But it just didn't retain the same feel that keeps me reading the book. First, it did bother me that the movie was made into a 50's - 60's ish time period. To me, Julie was a modern girl and I connected with the characters better when it wasn't some "leave it to beaver" type story. Also, in the book, Brice's dad was a very good looking man with dark hair and blue eyes. This, I think was an important point. That a really good looking person could have missed becoming a decent person because it was easy to be liked due to good looks instead of good character. And now it was Brice who needed to decide if he was going to end up being a good person or be a replica of his good looking but rude father. So the casting was not appropriate for Brice or the father. Also, I didn't like how they had Julie's family fighting. In the book they were much sweeter and down to earth. I think this could have been a better movie but I would still have preferred the book where I can visualize them just the way that makes sense to me.

My husband and I don't care for the movies being made today. I do a lot of searches trying to find things to watch. I ran across this movie and we both really enjoyed it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Touching!

After searching through the vast Amazon Video selection, watching various trailers, for almost half an hour, one reviewer's words sealed the deal for me. I decided on this movie because I absolutely loved "The Wonder Years." The reviewer said, "if you liked The Wonder Years, you will love this movie, because it's even better." Sold! I clicked on the purchase button. I am so glad I did!

I don't know why, but the little girl really touched my heart and I felt my eyes start to burn and well up. Her acting was amazing! There was this scene where her mom and dad began to argue at the kitchen table. The little girl's facial expressions, the way she would look back and forth. The tone of her voice. It made it all so genuine! The mirror neurons in my brain bought it! It was as if she was really feeling the tension. Was really sorry for igniting the argument.

The only one who, in my view, didn't do such a good acting job, was the little boy's father. Not just because he was a royal jerk, but there was just something that didn't flow naturally in the way he played his part. Another reviewer was also critical of this personage, but for different reasons. That other reviewer had read the book version. Apparently the actor wasn't a match to the book depicted character. My push-back was more with his acting. And that is the reason that I didn't give the movie a perfect rating.

Everything else about this movie was perfect. The little girl was so easy to like. And I was forced to think of all the times when I downplayed a wonderful human being, simply because she wasn't cool, the most beautiful, or because of what others might think if I took her seriously. Fortunately, age matures us, and we learn to see, as the little girl's father said, "the entire scene." Not just a ray of the sun, alone. Not just a tree, alone. But the whole scene. In other words, not just one part of the person, but the whole person, is what matters.

This is a feel good movie that tugs powerfully at the heart. The plot is one that any human, by virtue of being human, will be able to easily identify with. Therefore you cannot go wrong with renting it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Book was better but the movie was pretty close!

I loved the book and had to rent the movie. The book is always better, but the movie came pretty close! The actors were great and the story had a beautiful message. I read the book with my fifth grade students and used the movie to compare the both. My daughters age 12 and 16 also read the book and enjoyed the movie. The only reason I gave it at 4 of 5 stars was because it was not exactly like the book. I still would highly recommend it.

I watched this with my 13 year old daughter who's in the 7th grade so she could totally relate to the characters!
Even the story takes place in 1963 its timeless!I found myself
back to my Jr.High self:)I really loved how the
movie teaches kids to look at people and learn what kind of person someone is!what kind of heart do they have
do they have integrity not just the usual love story where they fall in love based on looks alone. As a mom of daughter
the only criticism of have is when the boys older sister calls his dad a exploitive he slaps her the mom screams and
chases him so you know it wasn't o.k,but the grandfather an 13 year old boy do nothing.:(I would have loved to have
have seen the grandpa yell hay you don't put your hands on a woman! Then say to the boy she shouldn't speak to your
Dad that way but abuse is never a way to earn respect!Slapping a woman's face is abuse not discipline!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Charming and Endearing Movie.

Though you should have the thread by now, this is a lifetime love story told through the eyes of each participant. The story is told once through the eyes of Juli Baker, initially as a child, then as a teen. Then the same story through the eyes of Bryce Loski. Each showing how the same events are viewed differently by the individuals.

Rob Reiner (director/writer) uses a light hand to tell a charming story of first true love. Now that I've watched in on video, I'm disappointed that I didn't take the time to see this when it was in the theaters. It really is an endearing movie.

However, nothing blows up, no one gets shot, and there are no monsters trashing major cities. If your tastes are limited to generic blockbuster fair, then perhaps another movie. But if you want a heartfelt love story, this is it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple, endearing, heatfelt

I really liked this movie a lot. It was so simple and endearing. It really brought me back to my own childhood - trying to fit in, puppy love crushes, learning what role you play in your family and in society. The characters were very real and three-dimensional. I really enjoyed the grandfather's character; I felt like he really tied the whole story together. I will say one thing though; the actor who played Bryce's father could use some improvement. His lines were a bit off and he just didn't come across as believable to me. The same thing goes for the actor who played Juli's uncle. I actually had a good laugh at his part in the film; it was a nice try, but way off the mark.

Overall though, I really liked it and would recommend it!

4.0 out of 5 stars cute coming of age movie

On the outside it seems to be a cute little flick about a boy and a girl finding maturity and each other. Pealing away the layers and you see the dynamics of each family - one with a bully father who finds delight in putting down others, the mother figure who tolerates her husband while actually raising two really good children - the other family who is under financial strain but supports each others dreams with consideration and love.

The nature loving tree hugging little girl should have had a dog, in the real world she would have had a dog all us kids of the 50's and 60's had a dog.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great movie, better book

This was a very sweet story about first love. I thought the move was well made and for the most part the characters were as I had pictured them from reading the book. The book goes into a little more detail and is a little more emotional and so I like the book better, but is defintely worth the watch. I let my parents borrow the movie and the loved it. They had never read the book and thought it was very sweet. It was a lot better than they expected. My mother now wants to read the book.
