I have owned this book for quite a while and occasionally reread it when I need a quick and sweet reading fix.
I hadn't realized that it had ever been made into a movie and came across it when browsing for a movie to watch on my kindle.
I was surprised at how many famous people turned up in this!
Well, I did enjoy it to an extent. Seeing the book come to life was moderately enjoyable. But it just didn't retain the same feel that keeps me reading the book. First, it did bother me that the movie was made into a 50's - 60's ish time period. To me, Julie was a modern girl and I connected with the characters better when it wasn't some "leave it to beaver" type story. Also, in the book, Brice's dad was a very good looking man with dark hair and blue eyes. This, I think was an important point. That a really good looking person could have missed becoming a decent person because it was easy to be liked due to good looks instead of good character. And now it was Brice who needed to decide if he was going to end up being a good person or be a replica of his good looking but rude father. So the casting was not appropriate for Brice or the father. Also, I didn't like how they had Julie's family fighting. In the book they were much sweeter and down to earth. I think this could have been a better movie but I would still have preferred the book where I can visualize them just the way that makes sense to me.
