All Of A Kind Family- An Award Winning McMillan book for children.

It was wonderful to find this award-winning McMillan Reader1951 edition book again, which I loved when I was little in 1956. Unfortunately, it arrived with the cover torn off long ago - the edges were all yellowed. The cover front and back was filthy dirty, I had to wipe it down with Bar Tender's Friend and Goo Begone, and the pages around the outside edges were also filthy dirty, not to mention dried up chocolate bar smeared on the inside of several pages. Since I bot this book for my young niece, I had to tape the cover back on and wash off the book carefully before I could mail it with an explanation. I would have appreciated being told to begin with what bad shape it was in. I would have purchased a different copy from another seller. This seller did not even try to send me a clean book. They could at least have wiped it down. It arrived filthy dirty to my touch. I have requested a refund. But the book is still wonderful. It's about a family of five little Jewish girls on NYC's lower east side at the turn of the century, during the Gibson girl area and covers a year in their lives, complete with descriptions of all the Jewish celebrations and holidays. In addition, there is a mystery, a romance, a wedding, a new baby boy, and scarlet fever! Quite exciting! Good info for a nine-year-old Episcopalian me with ravenous curiosity! I loved knowing about all the celebrations that the Lord Jesus celebrated with his family when he was a little boy, too. It's a fun book with a good introduction for children to another of the great religious traditions of the world.
