How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we donโ€™t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsOnce a fan, always a fan...
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on December 28, 2011
I compared pricing and Amazon was definitely the cheapest way for me to purchase this book. Especially, with the free two day shipping from Amazon Prime!

I bought this book as a present to myself for Christmas. I love to read and I have loved Ellen Hopkin's books since her first. So, of course, I had to add this one to my collection. "Perfect" is the perfect book for any teenager or emerging adult in your life.

This book deals with real-life issues that can and do happen to many people. (Such as steroid use, body image, etc.) It follows the lives of four teens trying to be perfect in an imperfect world.

The first teen we encounter is Cara, the twin sister of Conner. For those of you who haven't read Miss Hopkin's previous books, Conner is a character from "Impulse." At the beginning of "Perfect," Conner is still in a psychiatric hospital recovering from an attempted suicide. In "Perfect," Cara will attempt to escape the expectations of her parents and create her own ideals.

The second teen we meet in this book is Kendra. Kendra has been taught that her looks will take her everywhere in life. However, now she is starting to doubt how beautiful she actually is. Buy this book and find out what lengths Kendra will go to in order to make her image perfect.

The third teen we meet is Sean, a young man who wants to be the best athlete he can be. In order to do this, Sean will begin using steroids. Will steroids help Sean become the perfect athlete he strives to be?

The last teen we will meet in "Perfect" is Andre. Andre has a passion for dance and wants to go to college for a career in the Arts. However, his dad would never understand. What challenges will Andre face trying to do what he feels is right for him?

I will be buying "Triangles" shortly and I expect that book will be just as great as this one.

I ordered some Ellen Hopkins books and all three came slightly damaged. Not that this should be a huge issue since they are still readable, but I do take pride in my books and I'm sad they arrived damaged.

Overall good book. I wish it didn't end the way it did. I wanted to know more about the other characters. I really didn't see how it really tied into impulse till much later. But over all it was worth reading

Good book. I like all of her books, though. I enjoyed the Crank, Glass, etc., series better though. I would recommend it to people who like her type of writing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Closure for Impulse
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on April 12, 2022
Must read Impulse first. If you haven't read Impulse this book is almost a waste to read. The only reason it gets three stars is the way everything ties together with Impulse.

I found I loved Kendra and Sean's story but did not like Cara or Andre's. Cara's story I wanted to love especially considering all the tid bits of her you got from Conner's perspective during Impulse. However, I felt her story, as well as Andre's, were just written to meet the stereotype quota. Andre's story felt completely thrown in the book from left field. All the other characters are intertwined together and then he's just thrown in to fill a quota. I felt like Jenna would have fit the tone of the book better than Andre.

Unfortunately, there didn't seem to be a decent ending to these characters story. Nothing seems to be fixed and handled at the end of the day. As stated above, this seamed to give closure on the ending of Impulse but answered no questions as to the delemas of Perfect.

Overall this book is worth reading if you read Impulse and felt like you needed a little more closure at the end. However, be prepared for this book to not give closure on it's own characters.

Melissa 'Dog/Wolf Lover'
3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as first but still liked it :)
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on August 7, 2015
I didn't like this book as much as I did the first one, Impulse, but it's still pretty good.

You have Cara who is Conner from the first books sister. Then there is Sean, Cara's boyfriend, Andre a new character, and Kendra who used to date Conner before he dumped her.

So the story focuses on these four. There are some other characters that are involved in their stories but it's all about them from each of their perspectives.

Cara has trouble with her parents the same as Connor. She's not sure she wants to be with Sean any more and she finds out many different things about herself in her journey. She also ends up getting bullied because of it and stalked.

Sean is a sports fanatic that has to workout constantly and be the best or better than he can be, all of this leads him to things he should never do.

Andre is just a normal guy that wants to be a dancer, but can't tell this to his parents. They already think he is gay because he wants to go to art school for goodness sake. He keeps his secret from them because they want him to be some big star in other areas.

Kendra and her mom want her to be perfect. She's constantly working out, not eating much and having cosmetic surgery to try to be the best in these beauty pageants. She has a sister too that has problems with medications who dates Andre for a little bit of time.

All of these characters go through some heart wrenching things in the book, I would say some more than others. I can't say what because that would give out some spoilers.

The end of the book brings the first book to a close and it's all so very sad and tragic.

3.0 out of 5 stars Perfect cafe read...
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on October 12, 2011
Went to Barnes and Noble this morning and ended up reading this book while sipping my Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate (good, but the Salted Caramel Mocha is better). I didn't realize until I was reading that Perfect is a follow up to Impulse, and here again you have lots of teens under pressure. I much preferred the girls story's, while the boys seemed a bit boring. I really didn't like how the rape was dealt with, but at least it was realistic- a lot of rapes don't get reported and it did offer an interesting he said/she said view point. I would have preferred to hear more about Cara- I thought her story of coming to grips with the fact she was a lesbian was the best part of the book, but a lot of her struggle seemed to happen to fast. I was more interested in Jenna's story than her sister Kendra's anorexia battle. I really enjoy Ellen Hopkin's writing style, but this go around I just wasn't as impressed with her characters- they seemed very stereo-typical and it lacked some of the tension that Impulse had. Still, there's something to be said about an almost 600 page book that I was able to read in one sitting at the Barnes & Noble cafe.

3.0 out of 5 stars Once Upon a Twilight Reviews
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on October 27, 2011
Although the book sounds promising and very interesting to say the least, i found the book to be a little complicated. Its unique because its written in verses and it sometimes rhymes, but i just don't have the patience for this type of book right now. In a different situation, i would have read the entire book, not to say i wont read it in the future. But as of right now, its a little to confusing to my liking. Please do not get discouraged by my review and not read the book. This is an amazing author, who has written plenty of incredible books. And as it may not be something i am interested in at the moment, you may find it to be he best read ever!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Item, Slow shipping
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on May 31, 2012
I love these books which is why I was willing to wait an extra 3 days for my book to get to me. Sadly, shipping was late. If it weren't for my love of this author we would have had a problem. I'm very happy with the condition the book was in when it got to me. it looked lightly used as mentioned in the description but like I said, poor time management for shipping. That was my one and only complaint.
