Attractive artwork and a storyline with a superb message, but what really turned me on with this children's book was the clever "porcine" passages including this winner, "As she wandered through New 'Pork' City, she began to wonder if her dreams would really come true." Great book I really enjoyed, and I'll end with a passage from the book which brought a song from Seussical the Musical to mind, "Anything's possible...We'll see if the pig's got pizzaz."
I thought this was a wonderful story about trying new things, doing what you really love and never giving up. I deducted one star however because I thought that the eBook format could have been better. The text could have easily been twice as large and the pictures should have filled the rest of the space per page, instead most pages barely covered the top 1/4 of the screen.
It's obvious that Kristi Yamaguchi poured her heart, soul, love, much thought, and personal experiences into this sweet and inspiring book. It may well be that big dreams achieved in the future will be fueled by this book today. The illustrations by Tim Bowers of Poppy and the other characters make the book a wonderful visual treat in addition to being an inspiring story of triumph. Kristi's story of dreaming big, and overcoming challenges and obstacles while working towards one's dreams, is timeless; and I can imagine children inspired by this book today reading it to their own children, and grandchildren, years and decades from now. Any family with children -- and any adult who may have forgotten how to dream -- should definitely get this gem of a book and take its inspiring message to heart.
Poppy is a pig with big dreams. She wants to be a star. She tries ballet, singing and modeling. Her family and friends encourage her. They believe in her. She fails miserably i most of teh things she tries. One day she wathes skaters skating. Will she fail at this too? Kristi has created a positive book that teaches children to go after their dreas. This is a great message for all kids.
Dream Big, Little Pig! This is a delightful and uplifting story for a young child and one that a beginning reader could read by themselves. BUT, the message applies to people of all ages. Dream Big, reach for the stars, and never give up on accomplishing your goals in life!
I ordered this book as soon as I saw Kristi Yamaguchi on the "Today" show...I guess those promotional tours authors do really do work! My 5 year old daughter really enjoyed this book. She was captivated by the colorful pictures and the very cute and humorous story. My only wish was that the story was a bit longer. It almost seemed to end abruptly, but a very nice children's story none the less.
