Top critical review
Disappointing, uninteresting, poor character development

I didn't much care for this book. First, it simply didn't capture my attention. I kept waiting for some tension build up and it didn't arrive so I'm not likely to read another John Rebus crime novel. The Rebus character kept asking throughout most of the book whether he had a case or not. He almost seemed bored, and I definitely way. Sort of like watching a mediocre movie and waiting for it go get better, which they never do and neither did this book. I had previously just finished Robert Galbraith (J.K. Rowling) Cormoran Strike crime thriller and it was vastly superior. Second, the main character, John Rebus, is not well developed. I never got a sense of him, his personal life, the work environment, in contrast to the Strike novel. Also, Bosch, another favorite, so much better. So, I will certainly not read any more of John Rebus books and don't recommend.
