Don't get me wrong, I've always been a Parker fan. But due to the fact that I
started reading the Jesse Stone novels only after seeing the movies with Tom
Selleck, I had certain expectations, which the novel failed to meet. Possibly
someone who reads these first, then sees the movies, will be disappointed in them
instead, I don't know.
In the movies, Stone's ex-wife "appears" only as a voice on the telephone. Here she
shows up in person, and hangs around Jesse's neck like an extremely bossy albatross. It
is very annoying, and makes me think less of Jesse for allowing it to happen. These too-
frequent interchanges also interfere with the development of the main story.
It isn't often that a movie version of a novel is superior to the book, but here, it isn't
