Top critical review
Good for "In Death" fans but....

Like most "In Death" readers here, I've read each and every book at least once, some I've read as much as six or seven times, and I can normally divide the series of books into two categories: Okay and Excellent. The excellent books for me are filled with a lot of tense action, highly charged emotional situations (like Eve and Rourke having a major fight), or a crime plot that is extremely intriguing, like the Icove case. The "okay" books usually fail to have any of these elements and is just a typical crime drama where the bulk of the story is taken up with simply solving the crime. Sadly "Celebrity in Death" falls into the latter category.
One of the previous reviewers mentioned that they were disappointed with the lack of "legwork" and mystery solving for the murders. I don't know how they could say that since most of the book was just your basic "solve the murder" plot. There was a small smattering of emotional issues, but they mostly had to do with coming to terms with the previous book. And there were even fewer laugh out loud funny lines or moments: "Pleasebody".
I know for me, a really good "In Death" book will be a real page turner and I'll usually finish it within two days. With this book it took me about five days to finish it because I found myself getting bored with the typical crime solving routine that can be found in all of these books. The only unique thing that kept me semi-interested was the Hollywood/Vid story and the characters that were the actors and producers of the vid. The main characters seemed to be just "phoning it in". Kind of like the book.
To make it more disappointing is the fact that I know this is the second to last book and I was hoping for more bang than whimper. Hopefully the last one WILL go out with a bang, and maybe a few surprises.
As I said, if you are a fan of the series, you kind of owe it to yourself to read this one. But I wouldn't suggest it for someone new to the world of Eve, Rourke, Peabody and all.
