Top critical review
Informative but not for Dummies

As an absolute beginner with EXCEL, I hoped that this book would be great for me. I have found that this is a very difficult program to learn and that it takes many resources and a huge investment of time. Having abandoned EXCEL for Dummies early in my quest as too difficult, I have come back to it regularly to help understand some features. The big thing that I miss is a comprehensive index. It really needs an index/glossary to help the novices. You can't start on page 1 and try to go through it. There are too many places where you need a fuller (or more basic) discussion of a point. Microsoft itself offers some good instruction, but it needs lots of supplementary support. As a visually disadvantaged senior, I found the Dummies book very hard to read. I took it to a library where there was a machine that magnified full pages. This is a big help, but since I have "senior attention deficit disorder", I can only work on it for a half hour at a time and then the next time spend 15 minutes reviewing. In summary, EXCEL for Dummies is a good supplementary resource but not a great "how to" or reference book.
