The title asks the greatest question for the kid who is a dog owner and will tickle the funny bone of those who don't own a pet. Marilyn Singer and Kathleen Habbley bring together words and images to explore the adventures of "What is your dog doing?" I laughed the giggle of recognition as I remembered the mischief of my dog. A quick purchase to replace a worn copy in the library where I work. Fabulous! Thank you!
This is a great book for children. I bought it for my nephew, who is 8 months old, because of the brightly colored illustrations. It doesn't have much in terms of words, which means it's great for his mom to read to him over and over. And, I think it will be a good book for him when he gets older for the same reason. Few, simple words are good for learning to read. Plus, it has dogs (and Bostons at that)!
My son just turned two, and I've read him this book about 100 times in the past month. The simple rhyming verse and the amazing vibrant illustrations make this tons of fun to read to your kid. If you have a dog, and a child, you must buy this book. We love it.
With one line of text per page and it's bright, energetic, cartoon-like illustrations, What is Your Dog Doing is the perfect gift for any young dog lover. We see many different dogs doing different things, which are explained in well rhymed couplets. From "Dog Sledding/Dog Shedding" to "Brilliant dog that loves to herd/Famous dog that gets chauffeured", each couplet is accompanied by images that are sometimes practical and other times whimsical. This is sure to prompt some interesting doggy discussions about things like the nature of guide dogs, and police dogs that inspect. The rhymes flow well as a read aloud for toddler and young preschool groups, just be prepared to hear a lot of stories about what their dogs can do! Recommended.
