I am 74 yrs and have doctorate in clinical psychology. Twenty years ago in an advanced graduate seminar, I was introduced to this classic by a another PhD much smarter than I. Six of us lucky people went allover the place with philosophical and also silly ideas. This author also experienced it for the 1st time at an age far exceeding 8yrs which is the age I wished I had 1st discovered it. Her teaching guide I bought to have a diologue with my three grandkids who are going to find themselves with different POV depending...... Do this for you and get your tokens ready!!
I love this because I can ask questions to be sure that my son is reading the book. We haven't done all of the activities, but we have done some of them and they are great suggestions. For a busy homeschooling mom of 5 I have appreciated having this done for me! THANK YOU!
I'm also a school teacher and reading tutor. I agree with Ms. Taylor's appreciation of the word play and themes in this book. Sometimes it's nice to get ideas from other experienced teachers on a book that has a lot of content. This guide is great for new ideas or simply as a springboard for your own lessons. Worth every penny!!! Much thanks to the author. :))
I ran an enrichment group of fifth graders for a literacy unit. We read the Phantom Tollbooth and used this guide to reflect on parts of speech and writing. The guide gives great ideas for extended lessons that were engaging enough for those too cool for school.
How did I miss this as an avid childhood reader? The messages of the story are sound lessons a reader of any age can relate to. The characters, named for their particular attributes, are an exercise in literary allegory. This is a book I'll be getting for my grandchildren!
Cannot print from Kindle! Not being able to print the ideas from the Kindle ebook is disappointing (other sites allow downloading as a pdf document). With that said, the Author is truly a gem, and I look forward to using this resource as I teach the novel. Thanks for your work, Irene!
