I have read all Mary Wine's highlander stories and love her writing style. I don't normally read "steampunk" novels but since I enjoy this author and I find it good to read something a bit different now and then.
Well this was certainly different. I didn't mind the steampunk aspect of the book or even the secret societies. Since I don't normally read this genre it was all new to me and since I had nothing to compare it to - I didn't find it lacking. What I did find it, was confusing - it was hard to keep track of who was who and who was good and who was bad.
I liked Janette and Darius - but again there was some confusion. We never learned why Darius joined the order or who it was he left behind. Also there is the trust issue - which started to get old real fast. And his constant "warning" her away nonsense - seriously I wanted to slap Darius. Then we have Janette's mother - whose problem was apparently solved by the end of the book - but I have no idea how.
There is obliviously going to be more books in the series Bion and Sophia for sure and I am guessing Lykos & Decima. I will probably read them but, I really prefer her highlander novels.
