How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsMy grandson loves this book!
Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2019
My 5-year-old grandson LOVES this book. I buy him a lot of hardcover and paperback books in addition to his Skybrary/Reading Rainbow and Epic Books subscriptions, and this is one of his many favorites. I had been talking to him for some time about the importance and joy of being able to read himself and how it would help him (e.g., playing video games) and thought that this book might help further my cause--and it did. He loves both Rocket and the bird and enjoys identifying the words. He is well on his way now to being an independent reader (thanks to kindergarten, of course, as well as being read to) and is so proud. I recently bought "Rocket Writes a Story" and look forward to working with him on writing a story this summer!

This is the sweetest story about Rocket and his Teacher, a little yellow chick. Rocket starts a word collection and eventually uses some of his words to write a story about his new friend. We gave these to our 2nd grade kids in the R.E.A.D. program, along with journals, as an end of the school year gift. Some of the words were a little bit of a challenge for them, so it truely does serve pre-k through 8 or third grade as they move from being read to to reading it themselves. We asked our kids to make a collection of the words they had trouble with first so that they could learn those. Then collect more new words through the summer and finally write a story with their words! We can't wait to get back to school next term and see what the kids have written! They will be reading their stories to the Reading Education Assistance Dogs! Rocket is great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book!

I bought this book and "Rocket Learns to Read." My son, who is 6 and in first grade, really likes both of them. I read them to him and I read them to his first grade class. I also gave the books as a gift to his first grade teacher (she loves them as well).

I think it really resonates with my son because he can relate to Rocket. He has been learning how to read, just like Rocket. And he does a lot of writing in first grade and goes through the same process Rocket does trying to come up with subject matter and editing his work.

The story is wonderful and relatable. The illustrations are bright, clear, and engaging. I highly recommend this book and it's companion, Rocket Learns to Read.

This is a great book for early childhood Pre-K - 1st Grade probably helping to motivate children to read. Great storyline to relate to in addition to some very easy 3-4 letter words. Fun book both our 3 & 5 YO's love them ask and for Rocket by name, great character.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet, Educational AND Enjoyable!

Written by the same author as the awesome Duck & Goose series, Rocket Writes a Story is the follow up to Rocket Learns to Read. Though the book has a well-developed plot, it's not too much for little ones to follow (our little one has loved this since she was about 2.5). This story, and the one before it, are great ways to get little ones excited about the idea of reading, and there are many opportunities to practice reading small words and (especially in this one) sight words. The characters are very lovable and sweet, the illustrations are beautiful, and it has excellent shelf life for older kids to continue to enjoy.

I bought this for my 7 year old. We are using it to learn how to write a story, I found some worksheets etc online that goes a long with this book. Random house have a teachers guide you can find here https://www.randomhouse.com/catalog/teachers_guides/9780375870866.pdf But if you google lesson plans for it you come up with a ton of people that have used it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fits exactly to what my kindergartener is doing to learn to write

I was amazed when my son came home from kindergarten with an assignment to make a folder with pictures pasted to it and the words for those pictures, underneath. It was exactly what this dog, Rocket, does. In both cases, they use it to learn to write a story about the things around them and the things they love. I ended up giving my son's teacher my copy since she can use it year after year. Need to now buy my own! (Have not read the other books in this series - yet)

Rocket Learns to Read is one of our fav stories that we go back to again and again. Great way to reinforce the alphabet and their sounds. This is the continuation of Rocket, the adorable dog to continue his learning and applying his alphabet and sounds to learn to read in this story. He learns from the cute yellow bird who is persistent and lures him in with stories about a dog who loses his bone. The story and illustrations are adorable. Great idea for a gift for a child, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rocket is a favorite read at our house

This is the second book in the Rocket picture book story. I highly recommend both of them. The plot for Rocket Writes a Story is based on early education writing concepts and kids 3-8 would really enjoy it. It coincides with the early creative writing lessons of elementary schools and would make a great story base for writing lessons for a K-2 teacher. Beautiful illustrations, too! I bought one for our house and for my nephew turning 6 (who also received at a past birthday How Rocket Learned to Read). Buy them both!
