To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Had to purchase this book to replace a lost library book and the library binding on this product was great. Even got a compliment from the librarian when I turned it in on how nice the book looked and how it would hold up over time and after multiple uses.
I Love this book! I always buy Berenstain Bears as "transition books" for my daughter. We read it every year the night before our family reunion and talk about it so she knows what to expect. It really helps her to take her book with her. She isn't as shy when she is showing off something "cool."
WOW! When the Berenstain clan gets together, there are a bazillion of them! How in the world do you cook for that many bears? One can only hope they aren't fattening up for hibernation.... (No, I don't really think this clan does that.)
If your own clan doesn't have family gatherings (reunions) like this, reading this story might have your children wondering why not. It certainly seems to be a fun thing to do so be prepared when they suggest that you do this with your family. Sure, it's a lot of work. Tell everyone to bring a dish. Even those who must travel can still get a bucket of chicken from KFC or a big container of veggies or a deli tray from Sam's. Share the work and everyone can enjoy the event. Then again, you may want to rethink giving your kids any ideas by letting them read the book.
Though this series of An I Can Read Book is labeled as a Level 1 Beginning Reading Book, I felt that it is more of a Level 2 book because of some of the higher vocabulary used. My daughter is five-and-a-half and will start kindergarten this fall, and we both felt that these books were a step up from other level one books, for example the Step Into Reading series. Though she was able to read this book independently, I just feel parents should be aware that this book has some advanced vocabulary and complex sentence structure which beginning readers might have some difficulty with, e.g.:
"I'm happy that we have good weather for our family get-together!" "We've done our best to prepare to welcome the family to our lair." "Look! Twin Cousins Mike and Ike are riding their two-seater bike."
The books in the series have engaging story lines and each page has beautiful full-color illustrations. This particular title is about the Berenstain Bears' family reunion and it is written in a delightful rhyming format which makes it a fun read! This is an excellent series that will motivate young children to read.
