How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsExcellent Book on the Hypertext Transfer Protocol
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 29, 2001
The author, Clinton Wong, does an great job of covering HTTP. He points out the differences between HTTP 1.0 and HTTP 1.1 in an excellent manner. This books covers the following topics:
What is HTTP? -- HTTP Transactions -- Client Methods -- Server Response Codes -- Headers -- URL Encoding -- Client and Server Identification -- Referring Documents -- Retrieving Content -- Media Types -- Cookies -- Authorization -- Persistent Connections -- Client Caching
This is a SMALL book. "HTTP Pamphlet" would be a better description. As a "Pocket Reference", trust me, it will definitely fit in your pocket. However, the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) probably doesn't need more than the 75 pages it is given (after all, it is a pocket reference).
I'm not sure the (price) cover price is right. There are best selling noves 5 times this size that only cost (price). However, technical books, especially computer/programming/networking ones always seem to cost more.

2.0 out of 5 starsUseful, for web, but rather limited
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 25, 2014
This is a shallow reference. The book covers pretty much everything but leaves a lot of unknowns. It is very superficial. For example, it doesn't discuss the challenges around the fact that proxy and caches often have a hard time with the difference between no-cache and no-store. Another example is the lack of documentation of some of the headers, where the syntax for multiple values is unclear: for cookies, what is the separator when you add an expiry? Yet, that's exactly the type of information I'd like from a quick ref guide I paid for.

You are better off with the RFC2616, which is more detailed yet better structured and clearer, and less verbose. It just tells you what you need and exactly what you should or shouldn't do. This book does not provide any value over the rfc.

4.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what it claims to be

The book claims to be a pocket reference, and that is exactly what it does. I needed a reference to all the HTTP header and message information for a project and the book provided it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly short, but packed with info
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 14, 2001
This is the smallest and shortest book I have probably read since first grade. I did not realize it, at the time of ordering, that this is actually a miniature book. It actually does fit in your pocket.
The HTTP specification is relatively small and simple. This book covers it all. I was able to complete it in two hours. It was refreshing to have such a brief and concise reference available. This book certainly did not fall into the trap of elaborating to the point of irrelevance. I fully recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good book
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 28, 2001
The praise of other reviewers is well met. Overall, this is a very good book and every CGI programmer and anyone else doing Internet programming should buy it.
My only complaint is that it doesn't group information based on servers and is missing some server-specific items that are important, although they are not part of the Spec.

This is similar to the other O'Reilly pocket references. It gives a good and concise overview of the http mesage set. You need to know a bit about http already to make much use of it but that's what references are for. Small, handy, concise, but lacking an index - my only criticism.
