Traditionally, if you wish to be a dad, you have a kid.

Not anymore.

I bought this bad boy and the next thing I knew I was wearing white new balances, cargo shorts and developed an obsession with mowing my lawn. I tie these factors back to the pure joy I get when cooking on this beautiful device descended from the gods. If you've never used a grill before, buckle up sport. This thing will change your life. What can you make you might ask? LITERALLY ANYTHING YOUR LITTLE HEART DESIRES.

Philly Cheesesteaks? Done.

Smashburgers? Easy money.

Sautéed vegetables? Puts everyone named Matsumoto to shame.

Breakfast? First time in my life I was excited to get up early.

I have a traeger, and smoking is next level when it comes to barbecuing. But the griddle? The griddle is the end all save all for all other types of cooking. You think i'm joking but you'll be getting to the airport 4 hours early within minutes after buying this hunk of metal. Trust me. It's worth it. Just do it. DO IT.

1.0 out of 5 starsBlackstone quality control falls flat - Customer Support non-existent
Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2018
Bought this for my Dad and this is his review. Assembly seemed simple enough until one of the bolts for the lower tray and tank hanger did not line up with the pre-drilled hole. Had to drill a new hole that was aligned properly. Attached propane tank and discovered that the electronic igniter did not work. Consulted the Blackstone troubleshooting website and followed all instructions regarding igniter failure --- nothing worked. Finally lit the griddle with a match and discovered that the right hand burner only ignited on one side of the "H". Tried several times with match and couldn't get it to light. Spent several hours trying to reach Blackstone customer support and only got a recording that said they were experiencing a large volume of calls. In desperation, I called Amazon and they offered to send me a replacement burner and igniter with no charge. Amazon Customer Service rocks and Blackstone could take some lessons from them. In brief --- griddle seems well made, but quality control leaves much to be desired. FOLLOW UP: Replacement parts arrived and they do no match the parts on my griddle. Tried many many many times to reach customer support at Blackstone and got the same recorded message over and over. In desperation I called Amazon once again and they also tried to reach Blackstone on a "priority" number ... but no response. Amazon agreed to refund my purchase price and have UPS pick up the already assembled griddle. Once again, Amazon comes thru and Blackstone loses a customer. If you are considering the purchase of one of these griddles, keep in mind that once it is delivered, you will NEVER be able to contact Blackstone if anything is wrong with it. Horrible way to run a company.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Griddle! Grease Drain Issue Solved! (Maybe)
Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2017

So I FINALLY got around to ordering this griddle and I gotta say 'm glad I did! This thing is amazing! You can cook anything from pancakes to burgers on it and there is plenty of room on it (28 inch model) to cook for a large family. I cooked a dozen burgers on it and had room for at least 8 more. The one concern I had was the grease drainage issue that others have had. I looked at several grease mods and decided I would try one of those. However it appears Blackstone has tried another way to help this situation. In the pictures I have attached you can see the changes Blackstone has made. First off there is no longer a "drain hole", second they added a welded "knob" on the bottom of the drainage tunnel at the end, and last (see pictures) they angled the drain channel upwards so that it doesn't automatically drain into the drain pan. Basically you will get some grease built up in the grease channel and all you gotta do is use a couple paper towels on some tongs and push the grease down the channel into the drain pan. This has worked well for me so far and I didn't have any issues with grease going down the front leg of the griddle. I do wish that Blackstone would have just put a drain funnel tip at the end of the channel that pushed the grease towards the drain pan, but what they did will also work fine. I have cooked three times on it so far and didn't have any issues with grease building up in the channel to the point I had to clean it before being done cooking. What I did was just push it down the channel into the pan when I was cleaning my griddle after cooking. If you are considering buying one do yourself a favor and go ahead and click that "add to cart" button, you won't be disappointed.

A Happy Customer
5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommend the Blackstone 28" griddle/grill
Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2018
Verified Purchase
I have owned grills for 50+ years. all makes, all models, cheap grills, super expensive grills and have gone so far as to make my own, always looking for the "perfect" grill. With the Blackstone 28" griddle/grill I feel my search is over. I thought the 28" model might be a bit small but it's easily big enough for a family of 4 with room to spare.
Having seasoned the griddle/grill I've only had time to use it a few times but have to admit I am more than impressed with it. The cook is even with great temp control One a very windy day (gust to 25mph) with it set on medium-high the surface temp was within 35 degrees edge to edge. I was a little concerned when I ordered it as I was going for the 36" three burner model thinking the temp would be more even temp but my fears were laid to rest as soon as it heated up. The only other concern I had was the steel warping but Blackstone is using a high-grade well-tempered steel as there were no signs of warping at any temp. I had read in many reviews that oil ran down the leg from the drip rail but Blackstone has fixed that as even though my patio floor tilts slightly left the oil still drips into the oil cup.
I ordered the Blackstone "package" when ordering my griddle/grill and had mixed results there. Frist the good, the oil bottles are great, quality material, easy to control oil flow when pouring and tight no leak caps. Having a chef for a father I know good tools and the spatulas that come with it are top notch. Quality no-heat break resistant handles with high-grade steel with just the right "flex" blades. And the bad was for some reason with the 28" model they sent the 36" cover and when I returned it they sent ANOTHER 36" cover. Go figure. I was refunded the price of the cover and after checking reviews ordered the iCOVER 28 in Griddle Cover which I happen to think is a better deal after reading reviews on the Blackstone cover and having the iCOVER, it's heavy duty, fits perfect and comes with a "tentpole" to keep water from pooling on top.
All-in-all I give the Blackstone 28" griddle/grill and toolset a well deserved five stars and recommend the 28" ICOVER.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seasoning is the key!
Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2019

Looked at griddles for awhile. Hemmed and hawed between the 28" and the 36". Had some gift cards so I decided to go with the 28" one. Package arrived in good condition. Assembly was straight forward and not difficult. The only thing I can say that I don't like is the height of the cooktop. It is several inches below my grill. But that's personal preference and has hindered me from using it one bit. Watch the videos on how to season this thing. Seasoning is the key. I used flax seed oil as suggested in one video. After the initial cleaning, I fired it up, waited for it to get to temperature and started applying the oil. Thin coats is important. I went through 5 seasoning sessions. As far as using it, I love it! Plenty of room for bacon, sausage, potatoes and eggs all at the same time. Clean up is fairly easy. Scrape everything into the tray, wipe it down with some paper towels, maybe with a damp rag. Let it smoke off. Once cool apply a thin coat of oil. This will keep any rust away. Cover it up. And remember, the more you use it the better the surface will be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Outdoor Kitchen Addition!
Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2017

We did our research before purchasing this. There isn't a huge selection of flat top griddles (in our price range) on the market. The older review talk about the burners not creating a consistent heating surface. The newer models do in fact have the H burners which distributes it very evenly. We are happy with the smaller size as the larger one would have been more than we needed. It seasoned up nicely. My boyfriend is still learning tricks to cooking on it but it works great. We have made pancakes, bacon, fajitas (chicken, steak and veggies all at the same time, tortillas right after)
We do suggest you purchase the drip extension from another seller. (see link) The grease tends to run down the leg when you are cooking things like bacon.
Lastly, my boyfriend is 6 '3" so it was a bit short for him, we solved it by making a stand for it. Now it is closer to the height of the other grills.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow am I glad I decided on to buy this griddle
Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2017

Purchased this griddle for use while camping. Did a lot of debating between a Grill or Griddle and was concerned that a griddle may not be versatile enough for all my needs. Wow am I glad I decided on to buy this griddle! Arrived just in time for a 10 day cross country trip. No major assembly, and really no tools needed outside of a wrench to tighten a few bolts. Broke it out of packaging at first campsite and, took about 10 minutes to setup, seasoned it, and it was ready to go. During the 10 days, I used for breakfast (eggs, bacon, toast, pancakes) and dinner (hamburgers, hotdogs, steak, veggies, grilled onions / mushrooms, bbq chicken, and the like). Outstanding results. Easy, Easy to clean. What I really love about this unit is that the legs fold making it easy to store (store this in the RV storage compartments). The tray comes with thumb screws, once removed, the legs fold nice and compact and breaking it down is quick (minutes). I simply placed it back in box it was delivered in until the next stop. I plan on getting the one of the carry cases for the griddle top for future trips. Would also recommend getting the 5 piece grill tool kit if you don't have it already . I highly recommend this griddle.

One other note about Customer Service. During the trip, I had somehow left behind one of the thumbscrews for the under tray at a campsite. Was able to work around the screw with no problem for remainder of trip. I called Blackstone and told them what I did and they sent me a replacement thumb screw free of charge! It was at my home when I returned from the trip. Impressive customer service!

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST purchase I have made in terms of cooking
Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2018

BEST purchase I have made in terms of cooking. This is the perfect size. We have a family of 5 and we can do everything all at once and make quick time of it. Love the fact that I do not have to worry about cooking smells in the house any longer. I use this both in the summer and winter. Like the fact that the legs fold up and this thing can travel, making it even more of a "go to" for tailgating, etc.
We do everything on it, from breakfast (eggs, bacon, sausage, fried onions, potatoes and toast the bread) all at once. Fajitas are quick work on this and we even do our stir fry. All our meat prep (if not grilling) and veggies are done with this and we hardly ever use our indoor stove anymore since the platform can handle everything at once. Saves us a ton of time and clean up since we do not have to wash pans, etc.
Easy clean up.
As necessary, at least for us, as a charcoal grill, we have not been disappointed once with this. Would not hesitate. Can't tell you how many people we have showed this to who went right out and bought the same thing and are super happy with their purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars The griddle is a great design and well thought out
Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2018

Took forever to get it. Amazon had to send out another one and it took a while to get also. Not the fault of Blackstone though so this doesn't affect the rating I gave it.
The griddle is a great design and well thought out. It easily folds up so you can take it camping in your rv or...
I didn't use the part that holds the propane tank and I didn't use all the knobs/screws supplied to make it easier to assemble/disassemble. I don't have the usual problem others are having with the grease not finding its way to the grease catch. This seems to be an improved version. It still drains to the front right side, but instead of having a hole, it appears that the trough is a little longer and has a built in bump underneath to cause the oil to drip in the proper location. It cooks nice and seasoned up nicely too. Lots of fun and a great new addition!!
The bad.
The top griddle piece. Although they fixed the oil drip issue, the other side was leaking! This is the front left side. The side that has a piece of steel (think small triangle) welded into the trough to keep the oil from draining out that side, and force it out the other where it was designed. Due to a porous or incomplete weld, I was getting grease drips from that side that would drip on the floor/patio and also run down the leg of the unit making a mess! It was an easy fix with a MIG welder but maybe not so easy for someone who doesn't know how to weld. I would have had to use maybe JBWeld or or some other method. Or possibly send it back. 5 minutes of welding and I was back in business. I also ran a short bead of weld on the right side to force the oil into the trough. There is a small area where the oil can make its way off the grill but not into the trough. It appears that this is where the metal was cut to create the trough. A spot of weld during the manufacturing process could have fixed this. Because of these two issues i knocked it down 1 point. If i wasn't able to weld, I probably would have been more dissatisfied and maybe knocked it down two if I had to send it back.
Overall a great unit. Lights easily, cooks evenly and I would recommend to any of my friends. Buy it!

I had been without a grill for 3 years. My family and i usually go out for burgers. However, i bought this grill right before the Covid-19 stay at home order was issued. This grill has been our food MVP. We grill fantastic burgers, homemade fried rice, homemade quesadillas, seared tuna steak, steak, and we have even made our own flatbread pizzas on the grill. I highly recommend this grill. If you do purchase, before you use it, there's a youtube video by Blackstone giving instruction on the proper way to season the grill prior to it's first use.
