If you can't go to Paris, you still can enjoy cooking with Ina Garten in your own home. This is a colorful and easy cookbook that many will enjoy. Everyone has a little time to make something different for their family, if only once in a while. How easy is that? I bought this for a french basket complete with wine, napkins, placemats, and this book. Everyone loved the idea along with the serving tray that presented my gift. Even if you only have time for a new sauce on some vegetables, others will be enjoying a taste of Paris. I recommend this fine book for those who want a little something different in their lives. This could be your ticket to Paris.
We just love this book. Ina Garten, who loves France almost as much as I, learned french cooking by trying every one of Julia Child's french recipes. Don't feel intimidated; Ina Garten has put together a set of recipes of her own, along with some 'borrowed' from chef friends of hers. The chicken liver mousse from Mirabelle, and the oyster soup are two of our favorites. She uses ingredients, many of which you can easily purchase, along with a selection of wines and liquors, to make her delicacies. Dazzle your friends and family, get them to join in the cooking as your sous chefs, or just serve them a fabulous meal!
I am actually an American living in Paris now and trying to adjust to the different groceries we have here. Things like butter, tomato sauce, milk and of course cheese are very different. And you can't buy fruits and veggies which are out of season or that will last more than a few days. We entertain a bit, so I am always looking for new recipes. This book is great because it is French food made with very basic, fresh ingredients that I can easily find at my local market, and you can no doubt find in the US all year long. Many of the recipes you can even make a day ahead so they're perfect for company. I love to prepare the 40 garlic chicken, the shallots or the beef bourginon for both my American and French friends, and they have been a huge hit every time! I recommend this book to anyone who loves to cook (and eat), especially with fresh ingredients (nothing from a can here), and can appreciate a tasty meal, perhaps with a nice wine. Ina even gives some good advice on choosing French wines to pair with a meal. It's a great book, lots of pictures, and easy to follow.
I am admittedly a cookbook hoarder. This is my first cookbook by Ina Garten, and I am in love. The photographs are amazing. The recipes are easy. Even I can make French food now! The recipes look delicious and can easily be incorporated into my normal day-to-day routine. There are even more challenging and time consuming recipes for weekends and special occasions. This book brought back so many wonderful memories of my honeymoon in Paris. My husband is equally thrilled with the book, mainly because of the amazing food he is now enjoying. Usually I find a handful of good recipes in a cookbook, but this book is full of great recipes. I definitely think I'll be cooking most everything contained within these delightful colorful pages.
