Excellent Book. One of, if not the best Striking manuals for MMA. It has a lot more then just striking, but in my opinion the clinch work is the best part of this book and maybe the best clinch work in any book I’ve come across.
Having watched many Anderson Silva fights I was happy to see a book that explains additional moves that Anderson uses to counter and dominate his opponents. The content focuses on specific aspects of the MMA game, such as the thai clinch and cage tactics in much greater detail than other publications. Counter and recounter moves are included as well as the different situations that Silva's moves can be applied. Silva methodology on classic moves are obvious such as within the takedowns and takedown defence sections and within the ground fighting chapters, and I was happy to see a section devoted to leg locks, something missing from many MMA instructionals. The authors have taken into consideration the plethora of instuctionals out there and provided something new. However those looking for a complete fighting system should consider the book complimentary. The one criticism I have is that Anderson provides very few examples of where his moves have been applied in his fights. More examples would have provided richness to the explanations. In conclusion this book is an important addition to any fighting instructional library.
The Victory Belt Publishers have once again delivered a potent combination of substance and celebrity!
This MMA Instruction Manual is exactly what was needed as a follow up to the classic "Striking" MMA Instructional previously released by Victory Belt. The book is loaded with techniques on the various phases that an MMA match can take on from the Clinch to the Ground; and everything in-between.
This edition demonstrates not only Anderson Silva's mastery over close quarter fighting skills, it also demonstrates the depth of understanding that Victory Belt's author's possess as well. The book's structure is similar to other Victory Belt publications, in that, each chapter is photographed and detailed in a progressive manner, combined with the dual-angled photography that enthusiasts like myself have come to know and love.
Being a huge Anderson Silva fan, I also have the complementary Anderson Silva MMA videos, also from Victory Belt and available on Amazon.com; and I must contend that they're the finest on the market, therefore I strongly recommend them in addition to the books, especially if you're a completist like myself.
After reading the first book, which is dedicated to Striking, I was left with a number of questions regarding what would take place after the Clinch was set-up and attempts were made or were successful in taking the fight to the floor. Well, all of those questions and more were thoroughly answered by this book. This book, along with the first one, should be considered required reading for all MMA practitioners, enthusiasts and fans that are interested in blending a complete "Top to Bottom" game.
In closing, I have to say that Victory Belt and their authors have once again done the Martial Arts community a huge service with this follow up.
Has a bit of everything. Your clinch technique will definitely increase, your striking combos with pads will get better, and what I like is that he shows both orthodox AND southpaw. I own books for BJJ, Judo, boxing, JKD, and Muay Thai and this book is my favorite.
i love this book maybe a litte bias silva is my favorite fighter but the book really breaks down the stuff for you you will be better at muay thai then you are now shows different holds for different kinds of people like what to do if your fighting a guy with strong neck gives you different hold for that just a great book
I recently received the book and went right to reading it. I read the whole thing through and then went back page by page, day by day and it is amazing! What an amazing and powerful resource for anyone wanting to increase their knowledge and effectiveness in mma or self defense. Highly recommend!
Well written and clear with good illustrations. If you know MMA you should know Anderson Silva quite well. I like "The Spider" because he is a well diciplined and creative Martial Artist, not just a fighter. He is well studied in several martial arts systems and blends them together nicely. There is a ton a great technique and applications shared in this book that you will be able to study and practice for years to come.
