From Babywise to Preteen Wise
Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2016
When I was pregnant twelve years ago, I was steered to On Becoming Baby Wise - I don't even remember how! Never having been around babies or children on a relational level, I actually studied the book. The concepts made good logical sense to bringing home a baby and starting a routine - so that some semblance of order could be maintained with the new addition. And, good thing too, as the second baby came soon after! Getting caught up in the business, I unintentionally did not continue with the book series. Now, my boys are 9 and 11 and so many changes are happening so quickly. I know some things I am doing well, but I also know that I am doing some things (like teaching responsiblity) not well at all. I know the Lord's hand was in a conversation I had a couple weeks ago when the teacher I was speaking with brought these books up in casual conversation. A week later - it hit me! I needed to see if this series covered older children, and thank God, it does. So, once again, with my highlighter and notebook out, I am studying these words of great wisdom until I really learn the material (so in "that" moment with my child, I will be ready for better responses to them.) I am deeply grateful for these books, and will be ordering the On Becoming Teen Wise in due time. Between applying this Biblical and logical wisdom and by God's grace, I will be a more successful parent. It will be my boys' decision ultimately what they do with their attitudes and their lives, but this, I believe, will greatly help increase the probability of blessed outcomes of our present, future teen and adult relationships with our beloved children!
