How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsA perfect pairing of Zen and Mutts
Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2017
I love the Mutts comic strip that appears in some newspapers. It has loving characters (humans, animals, birds, insects) and good interactions between different species. This book combines the sweet love of Mutts with Zen philosophy of living in the moment. The text is brief. The illustrations made me smile and feel good.

I think I will read this once a week. It will be good for my soul.

When my son was a child, before he could read on his own, he used to want several books, his favorites, read to him every day. His special favorites would need to be read more than once a day. Most people do not re-read books every day. However, due to my son, I learned to appreciate how good it could be to read or listen to a book you love often. It never pales. Sometimes, one gets new insights. My son is grown up now. I miss reading together.

5.0 out of 5 stars best, or at least most concise & funny, version of Tolle's philosophy

I'm a big Eckhart Tolle fan, and this is my favorite book of his. The collaboration with Patrick "Mutts" McDonnell is inspired. The book does a good job of bringing out the ways in which nature in general, and animals in particular, exemplify the critical importance of living in the present moment. Great pithy words, good use of humor, and beautiful artwork. I have given this book as a gift to friends & relatives. If you're into _The Power of Now_ and _A New Earth_ and wondering how to gently introduce other people to Tolle's wisdom, you could do worse than this book. My only very mild quibble with it is the subtitle: "spiritual lessons" is kind of Sunday-school-ish, and the book is about more than just cats & dogs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Although I'm an atheist -- still an excellent book!

I'd heard of this book when looking up some other books on being present in the NOW. I thought my kids (even though older -- middle/high school), would enjoy it, especially as we have three cats that our whole family showers with love and attention.

I cringed a bit at the parts about God/Divine/Christian references, because I think that these messages apply even beyond those beliefs and traditions, and it could have been more universal. (I believe more in a sense of Oneness than any Divine creator.) Nevertheless, the messages about taking our guidance from our pets makes so much sense and is such excellent advice.

Of course, the hard part will be to follow and live it. But hopefully with mindful practice ....

I'm trying to introduce the concept of being to my two children ages 8 & 10. they are very "normal" kids and aren't into this kind of stuff. but they loved the time we spent together reading this book. they loved the characters and parts of it made them laugh heartily. they said that they didn't completely understand parts of it, which is great bc it means they are paying attention and are curious about the message! one day they will understand

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wondrous Meditation

There are any number of 'cute' books out there that speak of Buddhist ways, of "living in the moment," etc. And I've been gifted with a few as people know I love animals and animals can be the best teachers in such matters. But this book enlightens, is more 'real' than those that use other animals, or animals talking to each other, and it reminds me of all that's good about my non-human companions and all that they have to show me. This is primarily the dog's wisdom, and cats too. And anyone who has either or both can appreciate the truth of what is being shown. The drawings are wonderful and so complement the wisdom reflected in the words. It's one of my 'coffee table' books because it eases one's mind as one reads it - and always prompts a steady smile throughout, from cover to cover.

5.0 out of 5 stars Learn the Power of Now from our cats and dogs
Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2009

This little gem of a book only takes 10 minutes to read but could change your life if you understand its message and put the principles to work. This book takes the deep teachings of the "Power of Now" and condenses them into a few sentences along with comic artwork from the creator of the comic strip "Mutts". The teachings and principles really touched me deeply. The book teaches us to learn from our pets how to live in the now. Cats and dogs do not stress and worry. They do not have egos. They have no issues from how their mothers treated them when they were kittens or puppies. They just live in the present moment they simply flow with life. They do not over think things and create mental constructs and opinions from which to judge life through, they experience life directly for what it is. Eckhart Tolle writes that he has known many Zen masters, and they were all cats. The book is not about sinking below thought, it is about rising above it. It is about rising above the endless stream of self talk in our minds and experiencing life directly with no filter on our senses. Thoughts are a wonderful tool to use, but they are a terrible master that can consume who we really are. We are not our thoughts, we are the witness of our thoughts. This book can help the real you break free.

It doesn't get better than Eckhart Tolle and Mutts creator, Patrick McDonnell together !!! Each page is a delight, but all together, the message is delightfully profound. I bought one of these books for myself, ended up giving it to a friend, then bought another... and on and on. One stays on my coffee table for now, just as a refresher, whenever I need to take a deep breath and realize I am not a humandoing...

I’d call this a divine collaboration. If you have ever received comfort from or been touched by an animal you will recognize and appreciate the wisdom in this deceptively “simple” little book. When I have a friend who is down for the count, my “thing” is to send them a book that will inspire them and keep hope alive. This is one of those books. It works.

A most wonderful book to give new parents to read to their children. Even if they don’t understand the words at first hopefully over time the ideology will sink in. I also keep one on my family room coffee table. Everyone that stops to read or look through it becomes engrossed and fully present.

What could be better than a new book by Eckhart Tolle? A new book by Eckhart with DOGS! I actually opened the box and was reading as I walked along the driveway, sat down and did not look up (except to pat my dogs), until I finished this book.

The combination of Eckhart Tolle's gentle words and the simple, yet profound, drawings by Patrick McDonnell is absolutely perfect. Some of the other reviewers have shared tidbits of prose, I do not want to share any more, as I truly feel this perfect book needs to be explored and savored, especially in the company of your best friend.

My beloved Money also gives this book four paws up (that is all he has or he would give more paws). My holiday shopping is determined, oops, now you know what you are getting!
