As a long time reader/fan of horror and fantasy, I have my own ideas as to what qualifies a tale to be "the best" of the genre. For example, horror does not need to be a violent blood-fest. Horror is so much more; it is the shudder that grows upward from your spine when you hear that random unexplained noise, the shock when you see that face outside your window, and the sick realization that you are NOT just having a bad dream. This collection has some really good stories that made me go check the doors, and turn on another light. Some of them are still resonating in my mind, which is what a "best" tale should do. Not every story was good, which is to be expected (not every participant in Miss America pageant is a beauty!) but overall, it is a great anthology, and I would purchase again.
