I grew up reading these! Hard to find these days. But was able to find them all. Alistair is one of the greatest childhood book characters ever! They are for my first born child when he arrives. Can't wait to introduce Alistair to my young Jedi!
I'm a librarian and enjoy reading, but never could stand reading a book more than once. This proved to be a bit of a problem until I found this book. Want me to read it 10 times in a row? No problem! I never tired of Alistair and his no nonsense approach to whatever craziness was thrown at him. I was looking for a hardcover copy for my nephew, but he's a cool little dude and i'm sure will enjoy 'reading' it on his mom's iPad. I'm glad that the book is still available. So many very good children's books go out of print way too quickly!
For the last 18 years of my working life I was a professor of pastoral counseling. I read this book to beginning M.S. level therapists in training, to introduce a discussion of personal character and how it fuels stress. The lightheartedness of the book was a plus, and it really makes the point.
Is this book out of print? It's such a wonderful book. Alistair is so charmingly pretentious and the story is so clever...imagine, an animal following you home from the zoo! And the pictures are excellent, as well.

I remember reading this book with my sister when I was about 10 yrs old and she was 4. We must have read it a hundred times or more! Truly a treasure - I'm very sad to see that it is out of print. I will definitely try to track it down.
