Bulky and too expensive for what it is

This is just dehydrated apple (cubes) with some powdered cinnamon sugar mixture and a small, clear plastic packet with a broken up oatmeal granola bar in it (the granola bar looked a little old). You add hot water to rehydrate the apples and the sugar mixture has some kind of thickener in it so the hot water turns it into a thick, goopy paste. After those two things have rehydrated and thickened up, you sprinkle the busted up granola bar on top.
The apples were a little too tart for me and the sugar mixture and granola bar were a little too sweet for me. In the very least they should have put a little salt in it to balance out the tart and the sweet (I realize I could have added a little salt myself).
For the price and amount of space this Mountain House pouch takes up, I think it would be more cost effective and space efficient to just buy one of those big variety boxes of flavored oatmeal and a big box of granola bars from Walmart, stuff what you want into a ziplock freezer bag and take it where ever you’re going. For the equivalent price and space you probably get more food (calories and nutrition) from the oatmeal and it definitely would be more filling and have better flavor(s)
I’ve tried several MH meals and I like them, they’re generally good tasting and have good texture and all that but this Apple Crisp one is an unusual miss for them, in my opinion. This one seems like they weren’t trying very hard to come up with something good. Even with a modest amount of thought and effort they could have come up with something better.
Because it’s decent but nothing great (I would eat this if hungry or just desperate for something sweet), I’m torn between giving it two and three stars so I’ll give it 2.4 stars.
