This is the second book that White has written with Hannah as the heroine character. A lot of history in this book which is all real history. She is called to a very rich lady's home to do a job for her friends mother who's named Rabbit because she jumped from bed to bed in college and the name stuck. She wants Hannah to check out some real estate she invested in near the middle of the State where the River Okeechobee crosses the State. A number of people have died in the house and Rabbit wants Hannah to prove that it was common knowledge that the house was haunted and miss represented to her before she bought it. That would enable her to get out of the real estate deal that is now costing additional millions. The site is now an historical grounds site where there was evidence a Civil War battle that took place. This revelation will delay the development of their project and take more investments to get through the archeological dig.

I give it a two out of respect to RWW. I've read all of his books but the Hannah Smith series is a tough one to figure. Crazed chimps that grunt words and wear perfume, odd characters not fully explained, a suddenly frisky best friend of Hannah's looking to jump any guys bones and a hinted at ghost. Whew! Too much with too little. Please RWW, kill off Hannah! Give us 2 Doc Ford books rather than throw in a fourth disappointing Hannah.

4.0 out of 5 stars Get ready for Action

I've read most of the Doc Ford books and all of the Hannah Smith series and I think Mr. White is beginning to get a handle on the Hannah character in the third installment. In this book,we get much more internal dialogue with Hannah and a ton of historical back story (a bit too much historical for my tastes). We also meet some interestingly weird characters and encounter some really good action sequences. One of the main plot lines (involving two unusual chimpanzees) teeters on the brink of unbelievability, but also offers some of the best action. In total, a good entertaining read. If you liked the other Hannah stories, you'll like this one.

2.0 out of 5 stars This could not have been written by Randy Wayne White...

I have been RWW fan since he was writing as Striker. By far, my favorite author, I have read every one of his books, some multiple times. I have been enjoying the new Hannah series, but this book was not even close to the same style and caliber of writing I have come to enjoy. I felt like I was in high school US history class, but less interesting. The story line was slow, boring, and unbelievable, and the abrupt ending left me annoyed. I hope this was an aberration, as I'm looking forward to the next Doc Ford book!

3.0 out of 5 stars The ending leaves questions - needs an epilogue

Good story that kept me reading wanting to know what and why it was happening. The ending did not answer the questions...I seriously thought that the book I pre ordered did not have the last chapter or two. I like White's books. I hope that in his next book he will return to this book and answer the issues, that he presented in this book, that did not get answered. Yes I would recommend it and yes I will keep reading his stories. I find that his writing style is different in this series compared to the Doc Ford series.

Randy Wayne White what happened? I have enjoyed the Doc Ford series, but this thing was dreadful: crazed monkeys, haunted houses? Are you kidding. Also, the editor must have taken the day off as there are numerous plotting errors.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sronge female protagonist

I must say, I like everything that Randy Wayne White writes (that I've read). The Hannah Smith series is interesting, but there is something missing from it that I find in the Doc Ford series. I can't quite name it. It is almost as though, he hasn't written this book (White) entirely, or had input from someone else. And, that is not to say I will not continue to purchase Hannah Smith books as they appear. There is simply something different about both the storyline and writing. If you like strong female protagonist, a good book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Haunted: A lot of action.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I was disappointed in the first two-thirds of it but then it got better for the rest of the book. In The first part, it was confusing because there were too many characters engaged in too many different things. It seemed disjointed. The lack of continuity made it difficult for me to understand where the story was going. The last third of the book was very exciting and thus more enjoyable.

2.0 out of 5 stars Hannah As A Wimp!

Far from his best; I won't say he phoned this one in but it is close. Hannah came across as pretty wimpy and was a far cry from the self sufficient flats boat guide when she was introduced to us. Maybe she needs the Doc around to bolster her confidence. Plot twists were telegraphed.

This book just dragged, on, and on, and on, and on.......

1.0 out of 5 stars Bring Back Doc Ford and Tomlinson

I cannot believe this book was written by the same guy who writes the Doc Ford books. I was 60% thru the book and nothing had happened except the very long descriptions of some totally unbelievable characters. Two uber smart monkeys a half man half monkey, two dwarfs, long discussion of heroines slutty relatives that goes
nowhere. This book was painful to read. I kept wanting it to be over.
