"No one who, like me, conjures up the most evil of those half-tamed demons that inhabit the human beast, and seeks to wrestle with them, can expect to come through the struggle unscathed" -Sigmund Freud

Oh...My...Gawd!! That book tore me up, put me back together, knocked me down & kicked me in the stomach before hugging & kissing me all over. So much emotional turmoil, drama, angst, lust & anger. I wanted to punch Trace in the mouth, kick him in the nuts, but hold him & protect him at the same time. Ember is the strongest, most understanding & compassionate woman ever. Sometimes it seems like maybe she's just a doormat, but that's not it at all, she will fight tooth & nail for what she believes in. Man, it was INTENSE!!

"Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage." -Lao Tzu

Ember has just moved to New York with her best friend Lena to pursue a career in writing. Ember is a quite, shy, bookworm, wallflower who would be happy just spending the night in with a good book & a glass of wine when Lena & her new boyfriend Todd talk Ember into a night on the town. Sadly, shortly after arriving at the club 'Sapphire' Lena & Todd quickly ditch her leaving Ember to fend for herself when she runs into a problem of the 'drunk guy who won't take no for an answer' variety. Enter Trace....Trace steps in & literally knocks Mr. Grabby Hands out cold. Ember is in awe of the gorgeous, ripped, tattooed badboy with a love 'em & leave 'em reputation. After a few run-ins with Trace & spending some time with him, she wants him even more.

"I want you, too, Trace. I want to be with you. Let me in. let me close to you."
I studied him but I couldn't read him at all and then I said "If you don't want to take a chance on me I get it but you should know the damage is done because for me, it's you."

And it's clear he likes her too. But still he hold himself back. Trace spends every day fighting some very vicious personal demons which leaves him believing he's not good enough for her.

"I'm not good for you."
My voice was harsh as I took a step closer to him. "I don't know who it was in your life that made you believe you were worthless, Trace, but if I ever find out, I intend to beat the s*** out of them. You are good for me. You are special. You have more to give than you give yourself credit for."
He went completely still and his face absolutely blank. He moved so fast to pull me into his arms and his voice was a harsh whisper, "I should push you away, far away from me, but I can't."
"I don't want you to push me away."

But Ember doesn't give up. She sees more in Trace than Trace sees in himself. And Trace finds himself drawn to her like no other woman before & it gives him a small glimmer of hope.

"I'm all kinds of f****d up, Ember, and there are going to be times when I can't give you everything you deserve, like when I storm out or shut down. My demons -- I've had them for so long that I've grown accustomed to them but when I'm with you, the demons are quite and for the first time in my life there's peace. You're my balm, my lifeline, Ember, and everything that this f****d-up man has to give you: this body, my heart and my damaged soul, is yours. You said that for you, it's me and that's how it is for me. You, it's you, Ember."

The road is anything but smooth. Being with her changes him, he's actually happier than he's ever been but his self-hatred is still ever present & it causes him to retreat when it seems too good. I have to admit, some of the lengths he goes to to push her away are extremely painful to read. My heart went out to Ember countless times. Her strength, conviction, loyalty & compassion made my heart hurt & swell all at the same time. She doesn't give up easily which makes it harder for Trace to push her away.

"Trace?"
He stopped in the doorway but he didn't turn to me when he answered, "Yes?"
"Tell me what you're thinking?"
The silence that greeted my question stretched out for so long, I thought he wasn't going to answer me and then, to my surprise, he turned his head and looked me right in the eyes.
"I just need a minute, Ember."
"Why?"
"It isn't everyday a wish comes true and you, Ember, are the answer to my wish."

Their journey was as heartbreaking & painful as it was beautiful. The supporting cast was amazing, some tried & true loyal friends & villains that make your skin crawl. Add in a psycho stalker & Trace's demons from his past coming after them, and what you have is a stay up late in the night-nail biting, seat gripping, tear filled, thrilling ride. So worth the heartache.

"I'll tell you what real love is. It is blind devotion, unquestioning self-humiliation, utter submission, trust and belief against yourself and against the whole world, giving up your whole heart and soul to the smiter."

I'm conflicted about this book.

(MINOR SPOILERS)

It's a story about a small town girl, Ember, who moves to NY to become a writer--although why you have to live in NY to write is beyond me. If she had wanted to be a model, actress, singer, journalist...I would understand the destination. She does get a job, briefly, in journalism but that is all the writing you ever see her do. It's weird that someone who has such a dream would go for so long without actually pursuing it. She spends all of her time working as a waitress and reading books at home and actually sings (and seems to be talented and enjoy it) more than she writes. Why couldn't the author just have made her a singer? Well, then the author wouldn't have one of her ham-fisted plot devices, that's why.

Anyway, Ember meets Trace--a hot, tattooed, amateur fighter--when he saves her a couple of times from violent men. She follows him, despite his bad boy, "player" attitude, and they strike up a friendship (with sexual undertones, of course).
Eventually, Trace can't resist the attraction, even though he tells her constantly (I mean, constantly) that he is no good for her and there are things in his past she would never be able to deal with, etc.

The romance part of the book was okay. But, as another reviewer said, I found it hard to believe this man, who was supposedly so sexual, would wait so long to have sex with Ember. If he had known she was a virgin, maybe I could understand him wanting to make sure she was really ready or something but...they were dating and even living together. It seemed contrived.
Following that was the whole, pushing her away/can't live without her/pushing her away dance. Then finally, he made the "I'll tell you everything" speech and they became closer than ever.

Personally, I didn't think his dark secrets were so surprising. I guessed it from the very beginning. But a lot of the story wasn't really believable--Trace ran away from home at 15 yet had access to his money and runs businesses. Did he finish high school in NY? Did he and Rafe live on the street? Why did he work as a sous chef? There were a lot of details that seemed like they were just thrown into the story to elaborate whatever the character was saying without regard for how they worked in the plot, and then were never developed or mentioned again. And many side characters (Rafe, Lucien, Trent) just seemed to be there to help when the story required something (a ride home, a place to stay) and maybe for a starring role in a future sequel.

Her roommate, Lena, was also a weak point, in my opinion. I just can't believe someone that mean wouldn't have been showing signs of this for years before this and not just when she meets Todd in the beginning of the book. Ember's father actually says he saw her this way even when she and Ember were in high school, so why didn't Ember? And why did her father not speak up when she became roommates with Lena? Or, HELLO, when they opened a bank account together??? Why would two roommates even HAVE a joint bank account together? It made no sense. But, like many things that could have become a major problem (and caused better conflict in the story) it didn't. And another opportunity--even if it was based upon a ridiculous premise--to enrich the plot was thrown away.

The second half of the book was taken up with a lot of "to the ends of time" kind of love declarations between Ember and Trace. There were really too many, to be honest. After a while, I was getting annoyed with them. I would rather have seen how others reacted to their relationship or how they showed their love for each other rather than listening to them say it ad nauseum.

But the real problem with Part two of the book was the "intrigue" of Trace's parents' deaths, years ago. (Revealed about a third of the way into the book) This story line was so convoluted and muddled I found it hard to follow, at times. There was a lot of confusion for me between similar names in the book--Vivian and Victoria, Trent and Trace-- some references were so baffling I had to check back in the book to make sure I knew whom was being discussed.

The discoveries and investigation went back and forth so many times, by the end, I was wondering how we'd gotten there and I had to walk myself through what was said step by step because it really didn't track with what was mentioned.
Some things never discussed: How did Charles know Ember was dating Trace when he showed up at her work? Who is the Carmichael family and, if they are so powerful, why do they only show up (conveniently) as the saviors of Dane? Even if they are powerful, why would they help their majorly screwed up kid when he messes with a future Senator's rich nephew? Why would a cop cover up a murder that could EASILY be shown as self-defense or defense of others? How the HELL did no one recognize "Darlene" after only 13 years?

There were a lot of story problems and holes, in my opinion. I did like Trace. He was a good male lead, and never played the "I own you" card as a lot of Alpha males in books tend to do. But Ember was a little contradictory (super shy AND sings covers on open mike nights?--though only after one beer!). I found it hard to believe she immediately saw the goodness beneath Trace's hard exterior after only one brief encounter, considering her personal insecurities and "shyness." Some of her actions just didn't jibe with what we were told was her character.

In any case, it wasn't a bad read. Just a confusing one. If the plot had been more clearly developed, it would have helped the overall story. But their romance was mostly okay for me and if I like the male character it tends to bandaid over a lot of problems for me.

So three stars. But I wouldn't read it again and wouldn't recommend it to a friend. Better (very similar!) reads out there:

Easy
Beautiful Disaster
Many more...

Oh I just had to add, as the author uses this phrase again and again: "Being that..." Is NOT a proper use of grammar in the English language. You cannot say, "Being that it is sunny, I think I will go to the beach" or "She could not go to the beach, being that it was raining."
The correct word is AS or BECAUSE.
Sorry but stuff like this drives me nuts!
On the plus side, this book had far fewer grammatical errors and typos than many books out there. And my copy had no formatting/paragraph issues other reviewers mentioned. So that's something.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book left me breathless!

This is the first time I am reading this book and I have to tell you that I was completely blown away! The struggle to love and be loved is at an all time high in this book and just when you think it is not going to get any more dramatic or fill you with any more anxiety, everything shifts and changes. It was a long process to get through this book because I just wanted the characters to let it all out and expose every little detail and then concentrate on the happiness. Of course, that is my one dimensional side talking. The angst and drama in Beautifully Damaged just set this book apart from so many others. It was beautiful and breathtaking and so full of hope, but at the end of the day the struggle to find peace is what left me craving for more, page after page.

Trace is an unbelievable hot guy. Shown by the swarms of women constantly surrounding him. But the thing about Trace, is though he is a fighter, fighting for the one thing he truly wants and needs provides to be the biggest battle of them all. He is afraid of the demons in his past and he knows that there is no way anyone will ever love him because of the torment that he has spent living his entire life.

Ember (by the way, I love her name) is a strong willed shy girl. She has so much going for her and wants nothing more than to be a writer. But she is not without flaws. She is shy and her best friend knows this and plays off it time and time again wearing down her self worth and image of herself. But Ember is not going to walk away quietly. She knows what she wants to do with her life and she is taking the chance to do it. She doesn’t have a lot of experience with relationships and she always feels so awkward when she meets a guy, words fail her and she tends to stumble over what she is saying, but when Trace shows up in her line of vision everything in her world changes.

These two are just so seemingly perfect for one another and it just broke my heart to see them struggle so much to find that common ground and common connection. But it wasn’t for a lack of trying, in a city as big as New York, the thought that they just keep running into each other is such a big coincidence, or is it? But one thing is so evident between the two of them, they love each other. And it may not always be spoken or said, but that connection is deeply rooted.

But with all great stories, the past has a way of coming to the surface and no matter what happens, once she finds out, Trace knows without a doubt that Ember will be running as fast as her legs will carry her. But what Trace doesn’t realize, is the strength and power of true love. Dark hidden secrets, hurt, anger and loss all combine into this novel and just make it gripping. There are so many characters that factor into the pain of the past but the question is whether together they can figure it out and become stronger because of it or will it ultimately be the end of the love they know to be true.

This book was not only a crazy emotional ride, it was full of love and hope. If Ember can get Trace to see the value in their love everything will change. But the emotional baggage he has carried through the years just makes it that much harder for him.

This is beautifully told story full of hope and promise and ghosts of the past; it left me breathless and wanting more. I loved them when they were together, I struggled with them when they were apart and I just kept reading until I had all the answers I wanted out of these characters. This is a truly amazing story of overcoming demons of the past and learning to love again and I was captured in the pages. This is a five star must read and I cannot wait to re-read this book again!

4.0 out of 5 stars A bit flawed but ultimately enjoyable

I really enjoyed this book. Despite a few issues, it had everything! A super hot emotionally damaged bad boy, an intense love affair, an abusive family, a psychotic stalker, and a seriously good murder mystery! Although I love contemporary romance novels (obviously), I do sometimes miss a good whodunit plot. Often when the two are combined, the mystery or plot is watered down and not that interesting in and of itself. Beautifully Damaged shredded that notion to pieces. The case in question didn't threaten the lives of the main characters per se, so there wasn't an obvious end (we always know she will get away from the kidnapper or he will rescue the day if one of the two main characters are in trouble)...and boy let me tell you...there are twists and turns in this one! It is also not simple (I had to reread some parts to keep people straight) which I absolutely loved. I can't say I was necessarily shocked at any point, but I enjoyed having the story unfold. The end wrapped up a bit too quickly but I still found it satisfying. My only gripe is that the romance was a bit too lovey-dovey after a while...almost like the author didn't know how to keep the intensity after the two get together. It didn't exactly turn me off but I found my mind wandering through parts that I think were supposed to emotional. The cheese also served to drag the story a bit, so the pace didn't feel great until the mystery part really picks up. Apart from that, I loved the characters and the plot, which is enough for me to be super psyched that I found this one and to recommend it.

Ember is a quite girl who enjoys reading and keeping to herself. When forced to go to a club by her roommate, she meets Trace, a beautiful, tattooed, incredibly sexy guy who saves her from a creep. Although Trace is way out of her league, she can't help but let her mind wander and imagine herself being with him. When they have several coincidental meetings around the city, Ember and Trace strike up a relationship. Ember is drawn to Trace not just physically, but to the sadness in his eyes, and the pain in his heart. As Ember learns more about Trace, she realizes that she does not know about a big piece of his past and that that past is still hurting him daily. While the two fight to have a relationship despite Trace's belief that he is no good for Ember, Ember learns that she and Trace are connected by more than just happenstance. As pieces of the puzzle come together, Trace is afraid Ember will leave when she finds the truth and Ember is afraid Trace will leave without giving her a chance. Can their love survive what is in Trace's past?

The mystery element of this story, although developed well, I thought could have been more fleshed out at the very end. The author took time unraveling the story, and then wrapped things up with only about 8 minutes remaining in the book. The final "aha" moment is just told to us...I think it would have been more engaging to figure it out with the characters. Also, I would have really loved to substitute some heat for some of the cheese. The bad boy amateur fighter that Trace is, just doesn't come through in the intimate scenes. If it was a little more raw, it would have read a little more authentic to me. There are several other story lines in this that don't need to be there but they don't necessarily take away from anything. Lena and Dane are throwaway characters, and I wish some of the others were combined because we didn't get enough time with them (Trent, Lucien, Rafe, etc). This was so close to being a top book for me, but the pace issues and the cheese factor held me back. That having been said, I loved Trace and Ember and was totally engaged by the plot!

3.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful read that comes with a few warnings......
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 25, 2013

First let me start with these warnings. If you are one of the following: a grammar nazi, someone who can't handle rough transitions, can't overlook editing errors or needs a book to go through the perfect editing before, DO NOT read this book. This book is NOT for you and will likely make you mad. BUT if you are someone who can enjoy a story barring imperfections, rough transitions and lack of editing to enjoy the story underneath, READ THIS BOOK.

Now let me explain my above statement. There are grammar errors in this book. But not enough for me to pull out my badge and want to place the author under grammar arrest. It simply looks like they couldn't find or afford one to proof read their work before publishing. Or maybe they were too unsure or shy of the story to show anyone. I hope that they revise and republish an updated edited version one day in the future, but to me it wasn't enough for me to throw my Kindle across the room. The transitions were VERY rough. A simple use of double spacing, or something, to separate time lapses or different scenes would have been helpful. It can get somewhat confusing until you adjust to it. But I am the type of reader that will dive into a story and overlook most things unless it's so blatantly distracting I can't stand it. With this the story was so engrossing; it didn't bother me after a while.

Now for the story. We have two different people Ember and Trace. Ember is the wallflower, who is shy and very high on the normal scale. Trace is the man with tats and bad boy charm that wants what he knows he shouldn't. The story isn't really a stereo typical boy meets girl and boy hits on girl, and then they connect. It's more of a girl sees boy, boy stops drunk, girl sees boy in dark corner, shocked girl runs away. Ember and Trace is a natural progression in a relationship even if it does seem strange at first. But we've all looked across a room and have just known that the person on the other side was meant in our lives for whatever amount of time. That's how this starts out. (Again I wish this would have been written in third person as I would have LOVED to know Trace's thoughts, especially as the story progressed.) While some of the dialog can get a bit cheesy, the love story is heartwarming.

The road for Ember and Trace isn't easy by any means, and there are a lot of bumps and obstacles, that mostly have to do with Trace himself. This is a full story that actually handles any issues that it brings up and doesn't leave thinking "well ok what happened to...." You think you know at certain points, but then BAM you don't. There is a mystery there about Trace's parents and that makes up the second part of the story. The twist in it, I never saw coming. (And I usually guess pretty darn closely.) Also the burdens you find out that he's carrying and his sense of responsibility is almost heartbreaking. At the same time it is also inspiring as he reveals each one. Ember starts to grow and come out of her shell. While there are peeks of her here and there in the beginning, only when she figures out things on her own does she really shine. Some may argue that she gave too much to try and heal a damaged man in the first part, but I would say she had set a hard limit and when it was breached stuck to her guns despite the pain. I don't think she wasn't trying to save Trace, but rather loved him enough to help him learn to love himself. Love heals, and her character was formed with that though in mind. When you love someone you love all the good, bad and damaged things about them. Not just the things everyone else sees.

The side characters are strong and don't take away from the main two characters. Lucien was my favorite; I hope he gets a spin off. He was a definite addition to the story. Even the villains in the story weren't a blatant over the top, but well done so we knew who they were and some we watch evolve into the horrid person they become.

The sex scenes aren't overly graphic, but neither are they to be considered very tame. Although Ember (much to my disappointment) is a virgin, at the same time she isn't stereotypical. It's very hard to describe. Some of the language is rough, but not over done in a lewd way if that bothers you.

This book made me smile, get mad, sad and sigh. As W. Styron said "A good book should leave you slightly exhausted at the end, as you live several lives while reading it." That can be said of this book. The grammar and transitions are distracting/confusing enough that it really only warrants a lower 4 to 3 1/2. But I will say I know that this is one I will reread.

4.0 out of 5 stars She was his salvation...his Everything...

Ember Walsh is smart. She knows what she wants in life and she works hard to attain those goals. She's already graduated College and has moved to NYC...lands a top notch waitressing job at a plush, elite, five star restaurant while she pursues her dream goal of becoming a writer. And then she meets bad boy, Trace Montgomery and falls....hard.

Trace Montgomery is one damaged soul full of self loathing and hatred. He hates himself to such a degree that he's given up on lifes happiness. To cope with his damaged life and try to bury past abusive memories, he fights for money and screws any woman available - - and since women flock to his beautiful body like bees to honey, they're always available. He's attracted to Ember but feels completely undeserving of her. Long and short of it is, Trace is self destructive. He falls in love with Ember despite his best intentions to avoid it, but he feels his love of her is not in her best interest and deliberately hurts her emotionally to make her run.

It wasn't easy for me to like this story only because I hate to see a woman beg and grovel to the degree that Ember does. I know there's a reason for her groveling and those reasons are detrimental to the success of the plot. Still, it grinded my gears to see her grovel to a man who deliberately hurts her emotionally...even though he feels it's for her own good. But I persevered and I'm glad I did.

Ember loves and wants Trace so badly that she does just about anything...overlooks just about anything to have him...telling herself repeatedly "he's damaged...I can help him". And even though she's right (he IS messed up) she's portrayed as too intelligent to put herself through the hurt and hell she goes through - - especially when Trace doesn't want her help (he feels underserving after all).

I kept thinking "there comes a point where ya gotta say ENOUGH and cut your losses"...no matter how much you love a guy, right? No matter how much it hurts? But of course, the plot wouldn't succeed if Ember gave up on Trace. She sticks it out and continues to forgive and put up with his BS.

I was swept away with this story. Told in first person from Embers' POV, it was superb and told well with a deep tacit message. Yes, it has a few holes and unanswered questions...(but then again that could just me me getting lost in all the twists and turns). I felt it unraveled a few times but it never disintegrates. The Author get's it back on track smoothly. Lot's of mystery and intrigue. The balance of narrative and dialogue, I thought, was perfect. Sometimes facts are repeated and reiterated as if the Author might have forgotten she's stated that two/three times already...but then it just reinforces events past and present...at least for me.

All in all I enjoyed this story however I doubt I'll ever re-read it. Not because it was a bad story or anything like that...it just wasn't deep enough to hold my interest a second time around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trace Stole My Heart: A Very Sad Soul

Very intense reading, including poetic written scenes. Ember was impressive, a shy girl taking some risks. I like Ember right away! Trace was a bit strange at the beginning. I really did not trust him. And Lena was such a selfish friend. I really don't know why Ember would even entertain a friendship with someone so different from her. And then, I started to liking Trace, he started showing a different side of him, although I still had reservations about him, which proved to be right because even after he came around as a sensitive and loving guy, he still managed to hurt Ember on more than one occasion. Ember on the other hand, was totally selfless, mature, grounded, loving compassionate, a well rounded person. Her patience with Trace was enviable, I would have kick him more than once for his behavior. But to his defense, he was so broken, really and truly damaged,. and she was so good for Trace. I love them together, such a natural connection, she is so keen to his feelings. A very tragic story, and I love how L. A. Fiore let her readers see so much about these characters before they are consciously aware about their feelings for one another. Ember admirably kept things real and very little drama, such a strong and brave character. A very intriguing story, full of surprises with brilliant characters: Fell in love with Ember!!!! Oh, what a character, so beautiful!!! and with such a great heart!!!

Beautifully Damaged, Revision - It is interesting how reading this book a third time and first on the revised version takes me to a somewhat different route than when I read the original version. Here I see a different Trace, even from the beginning. Overall more vulnerable, has a sense of humor and is more human. On the other hand, Ember comes across as needed and pushing herself into Trace by not simply getting a place and move on after all the embarrassing scenes Trace puts her through not to mention that he had to ask her to leave his place more than once.I questioned her self esteem, especially when she was suppose to be so grounded. Her strength somewhat is diminished and so is her maturity. I think I liked her more in the original book. Understanding that the writer wanted this story to come across as more real/detail, it also became contradictory to the original one. The characters interactions, as well as how Rafe, Lucien and Trace met. In a way, it stole some key things that , to me, made more sense in the original story, for example, how Trace and Rafe met. An observation that I noticed in the original book and again on the revised one is how can one rewind a live news TV show??? I fell more in love with Trace in this book, soooo cute! Something somewhat disturbing is how Ember clearly flirted with Lucien that was not so clear in the original one, and I could not help to think what Trace will think of their interactions. There were very emotional moments that make me teary at times. Another thing that I was able to see is how Ember felt she was so indispensable and although she had a great upbringing, she acted as if she also was a victim like Trace?

This book is great. But there are so many twists and turns and Dynasty moments that I sometimes wondered if Blake Carrington was going to come out at some point and suddenly Alexis would do away with Krystle and Trace would be Krystle's brother and leave Ember for the Oil world.

This is a very deep and dark book. There were a slew of characters and the further into the story you go the more and more you find out just how they are all connected, and how totally effed up they all are--and they are all effed up. Trace is a very broken character and so many times in this book I feel like telling Ember, "Run, girl. Run away, far, far away. That is all kinds of that sort of boy who will kill you when he thinks for a second you may leave him and he will keep you in his freezer to keep you close by afterwards." But then at the same time she would stalk him and I would shake my head and wonder ask Bunny, "Why is it he is happy she is stalking him? What is wrong with these people? Co-dependency is not a happy place, unless it's you and me, right, Meow, Meow?" She agreed.

But the thing is all this brokeness seems to work. Somehow in a bad and unhealthy sort of way it starts shoring up all these holes. And as it goes... it makes for some harrowing and and eerily beautiful love story that makes you cry and hope for the best. As much as you want every to have love, there is something about the really messed up ones... you just pull for them a little bit more. I was really digging deep for Trace. And there must be something really wrong with me, Harry Potter screwed me up because at somepoint I started thinking that happy endings aren't a given. I don't believe you always get them. I worry a lot reading books that they just won't happen. Tabitha Suzuma worked me over in Forbidden. I am an optimistic person in real life but if you give me a book I am convinced by the second chapter they will never get together and someone will more than likely die. No one kicks the can, I assure you.

But Trace he really really needed a lot of work.

I know a lot of people are making a lot of comparisons between Beautiful Disaster and Travis to this book and Trace. I have to say that that would be like comparing the movie Twister to an actual natural disaster. The amount of damage the two books deal with is incomparable. Beautiful Disaster is one of my most favorite books. I love Abby and Travis. This book is like wading through hell compared to them. I could read Beautiful Disaster once a month. This book is so full of heartache and pain I don't think I could do it more than a few times a year. Read with discretion. This book is incredible but it will leave you with a heavy heart. I really enjoyed this book. It is an interesting read that has suspense. I think the romance could have been turned up a bit. Their first tryst I actually felt shocked it hadn't happened already, considering Trace's former self. That it didn't wasn't the issue, it was that Ember's giving herself to him, so purely, should have been a bigger deal. This is kind of how this book went for me: the important moments/opportunities were overlooked, while some other moments were really elaborated on. I guess the book could have been "tighter". The intertwining of human relationships could have used a bit of attention: Lucien's sudden appearance and even more sudden acceptance by Trace was skeptical. A man like Trace, so alone would surely not have trusted anyone, much less a man who was interested in his girl. Luke we met at the beginning, didn't like Trace, but ended up being part of the family. Dane was a crazy plot line that is obviously sequel material, but that story line could have been used differently: Heidi makes the statements to Ember and then we don't read about it for a while.

I always love the bad boy being saved by the sweet girl! This book is a little bit of "Beautiful Disaster"and a little bit of "Bared to you" put in a blender and voila, "Beautifully Damaged". (Only MUCH tamer on the sex.)

*******************************
I bought and read the new book......sorry I did.

The addition of all the sex, although boring, was needed in telling a passionate love story. I am not sure where the other good stuff went. Emeber's development was left out of the second version. The way her open mike singing got more and more bold while her personal relationship with Trace also became bold was important but this was edited out. Why Trent's name was changed to Kyle was odd. Lucien's involvement first as a person who wanted to date Ember to an orphan? What is the addition of an orphanage anyway? If trace was 16, and Charles was alive, trace would have gone there, not an orphanage. Plus a man with political aspirations would never allow it. Not a realistic account.

What happened to the random bartender at Sapphire Luke? There were better/worse interaction with Lena that was left out.

My advice would be to put the 2 books together to get a decent book. The new version is not good, and I am bummed to have wanted it to be so much better. But it was not good. I would have issue with the editor, the first version wasn't nearly as bad.

Lena sucks as a friend already in this book (reviewing as I read) who comes to the club with their friend. Whom you know is a "Wallflower" as you say and then LEAVE HER without telling her that you're leaving? Then get annoyed the the following morning when Ember asked you why you left me? WTF? Lena is getting on my nerves she is so fricking selfish I mean like really? She got mad at Em for walking into HER(Ember) apt and caught Lena and Todd having sex. Ugh! I'm already hoping that someone slaps her! Smh some best friend that Lena is *rolls eyes* Lol @ Ember stalk much? (Once you read the book you will understand *Starbucks*) I love the way that Ember's dad gave it to her straight "No Chaser" about Lena.

The way that Em shut that lady up with Trace at "The Clover" when she tried to belittle Ember. Lol Ember's little "Dog whisperer" trick was a nice addition to this book. I swear I wanna punch Lena in the face! She is a grade A b*tch!! Em is getting on my nerves with keep trying to patch things up with trifling a$$ Lena!! Like this alone is making me wanna stop reading the book! UGH!!! What Ember did to prove her love to Trace was just soooo cute! Now with THAT said CHIIIIILE! Trace is a piece of work! When Ember saw Trace at the bistro that one night and what she saw when went to Sapphire couple of days/weeks later honey!!!!!!!!!! I was like so freaking done!

Now I will admit that Ember is one tough cookie she is also strong as heck. Because it takes a strong women to even be mature enough to say what she said to Trace once she finally made it back to apt. Lucien was such a good character in this book! I enjoyed Ember she is a little firecracker with a nice right hook lol. I LOVE Trace! He is a perfect mixture of sexy, bad boy, good heart, & brokenness. Overall this was a good book and I really enjoyed it. Something's weren't really what it seemed and I love these kinds of books. In my opinion I say get this book its worth it hope this review was helpful and is able to aid you with your final decision for this book.
