I listened to the audiobook version and besides loving the narrator, I really enjoyed the story. It’s a quick listen, but full of sass, magic, and of course a HEA! I’m excited to read the next book in the series on my kindle!

The first scene open with Deri Sullivan, a banished witch outside a seaside pub in Grove Bluff. She prays this job, although not much, will give her the needed income to survive. She is a CPA by education and experience, but cannot afford to have anyone trace her credentials. He brutal ex boyfriend, Chad Miston, is still looking for her, and she is forbidden to use any form of magik for 20 years! One slip up and she could be immediately arrested and either banished or killed. She is not guilty of the crime that she was accused of, and even her father turned his back on her. She is forbidden any contact with her family. What a mess! She has only the clothes on her back and a hope that she will be hired to tend to customers or do ANYTHING at the pub. The pub feels safe, and Deri needs 'safe' desperately. She'd never trust a man again, especially not a supernatural one. She knows that her ex Dark Magikal boyfriend framed her and hunts for her.

The owner of the pub is Coyle O'Caha a 700 year old Druid sorcerer and warrior. He and his extended family sit on the HIGH COUNCIL OF MAGIKS. He is a ladies' man, but he has not given up finding his soul mate, his one true love. Coyle loves oak wood and spends countless hours carving it into lovely Celtic objects. He has 'warded' his pub to keep it safe, but the moment that Deri touches the door a shock travels up her arm to her chest, and Coyle feels the disturbance, too. Coyle comes to investigate shirtless and covered in Celtic symbols. Deri does not let on that she know the meanings of these symbols on his very handsome chest! The rest of him is not bad either!

Deri inquires about the job and if it is still available. He says 'Yer hired. Aprons are in the back, You start, NOW!" Three years later, he still thinks she is human and there is no hope for his love for her. She is still terrified of giving her self away to either those who sentenced her, or the Dark Magikal, Chad, who appears to have found her. She's scared, but cannot ask for help. She has no idea that she works for the most powerful of Magikal beings. ...That's all I'm gonna give away, you're gonna need to get the book NOW and you'll soon be smiling!
Mandy just has that effect on many of us. Off to book 2.

Quick but fantastic read about Coyle O'Caha-a seven-hundred-year-old, immortal druid sorcerer, has one claim to fame - his experience mentoring fledgling witches. He found his mate-Deri Sullivan when she came to work for him but believes at first she is human so he doesn’t pursue her as his mate. But there is more to Deri than meets the eye.

Deri is a witch from a family of Magik holders. She has been sanctioned for using her Magik that harmed a human. The problem is she is innocent but she cannot get anyone, not even her own family to listen or even believe in her. Looking for a place to lay low (hide) after being sanctioned by the PBI (Paranormal Bureau of Investigations), she ends up in Grove Bluff , a place she remembers from childhood looking for work. Where she meets the hero is Coyle, owner of the pub Deri goes to looking for work. Coyle and Deri are such a great couple and the sparks are definitely there. The pair are drawn to each other but neither acts on their mutual attraction. What they do instead is work together for three years building their friendship. Its only when Coyle realizes what Deri really is, is when the “gloves” come off, you could say. You will love it when the sparks finally begin to fly! This is an expanded version of her original story so enjoy the bounty.

I do not want to give off any spoilers but what I can say is there is something so special and so wonderful about the Alpha maleness of Colye and the feistiness and grit of Deri. This is one of Ms. Roth’s well written paranormal novella books. You will not go wrong with this story.

Sacred places in the first novella is Mandy Roth's Immortal Higlander series. Coyle OCaha is an ancient, albeit, sexy as sin, Druid sorcerer tasked with protecting witches, who happens to own and run a bar in Grove Bluff. Deri Sullivan is a witch on the run from her betraying ex who framed her and left her in all sorts of trouble with the ruling council of her people. Now she just wants to get away and find some place safe to lick her wounds. She stumbles upon Coyle's bar looking for a job. When she and Coyle meet they are instantly attracted to one another but both think the other is human and it is forbidden to tell humans about their kind.

Coyle and Deri drive each other insane trying to deny their attraction for one another. The banter between them is entertaining. And when they finally let loose.....boy do sparks fly. Coyle's cousin Korey is hilarious and constantly needling Coyle about his attraction to Deri.

It was a good book, if a little short. The attraction between Deri and Coyle is sizzling. The fight scene between good and evil was short and a little anticlimactic. But all in all it holds your attention for as long as it lasts. I am looking forward to reading about the rest of the OCaha clan.

Deri is a witch who’s in trouble and on the run. She can’t shake a mistake named Chad who’s gotten her punished for a magical crime she didn’t commit. But she feels lucky to have been given her freedom even if she has to leave all her family and life behind to start over. Oh and NOT use magic, that’ll be harder but she can do it. She just has to stay one step ahead of her ex boyfriend turned stalker. Coyle is a Druid mage, he’s immortal and has been hoping one day to find his soul mate as do all immortals. Deri applies for a job at his pub and he hires her on the spot. They’re each struck dumb at their first meeting. Coyle thinks she’s his soul mate but knows a human, which she seems, can’t be. This book has witty banter, sexy smokin hot immortal highlanders and very little drama. It was for me, a quick read. I enjoyed it and if I had to complain about one thing it would be Deri never mentions Chad to Coyle as being after her and Coyle never telling Deri about his fight with Chad. Otherwise this book was awesome and a definite read.

A quick, easy read which I was aware of in the author's descriptive teaser. Deri, a witch who had to pay for a magical crime she didn't commit; an ex turned stalker named Chad; and an Immortal Highlander Mage. The world building wonderful and the character's personalities had qualities that were totally relatable. There were a few spots I would've liked to see more detail rather than glossed over or neglected, but all in all, this was a good story and a wonderful introduction to a series I've yet to read. Perhaps there will be more able these characters in an upcoming book.

Hi! For the most part I really really, liked Sacred Places. The chemistry between the two characters Deri and Coyle was hot, hot, hot. And the writing is really solid and I liked the supernatural world that she was building in the book. I would read more; Like her style... but.

The whole thing with "evil" Chad and Deri redeeming herself in the eyes of the counsel was completely glossed over. What a waste of a perfectly good plot line. I thought for sure I was mistaken, but nope, it was all over before it began and it was kind of lame. I was so annoyed that I almost gave this a three. I think the author should rerelease this novella or turn it into a book with more meat to that part of the story. However everything else was so good for me, I gave it a 4 anyway.

By the way... sex scenes are NOT glossed over so be warned, but like that they knew each other well first as far as timeline goes. That also swayed my rating, don't like insta-sex. Thanks!
