My daughter was assigned The Giver at school. From what she told me, it made me inquisitive about the book. As a human rights activist, what she was describing was a type of perfect communism, but I knew there had to be more. I decided to buy the book on Kindle so that I wouldn't have to wait until my daughter got home from school to read. I finished it that same day. Then I learned it was a part of a quartet! I was not able to put it down! The Giver does not do justice to the richness of the quartet! This is a gorgeous ode to humanity, its imperfections, the evil that can come from good intentions, the beauty of what makes us truly human (love), and the power each of us holds. Words fail me to adequately express the depths of this book (full quartet, for I feel the full series is ONE).
The author writes in such simple terms and yet conquers a myriad of complex human themes. Very thankful to my daughter for bringing it home, and more thankful that she's now reading the full book.
