This was my first Joe Pickett novel. I did enjoy it and could see that having read previous novels would have given the reader a better background on the characters. Not that that seemed necessary.
It was good but I was disappointed in how suddenly everything was all wrapped up in a simple package. Most of the good people survived with out too many problems. I found this a little too simple. I wondered if previous novels were similar. Sometimes I think authors must get tired of the same protagonist novel after novel and after many books they tend to disappoint.
I had problems believing that April survived without any complications, I also had problems with Nate and how he was able to be in the right place at the right time considering his condition and how he connects with Liv in the time frame and how he was able to call her when she had lost her cell phone etc.
All in all I will try to get the earlier novels and follow this character to see if I like the previous books better. It was good enough to persue that venue
