5.0 out of 5 starsFenrir has a terrible accident... can Amy help her?
Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2019
Wow! The series keeps getting better and better! In Warriors, Amy is faced with Fenrir's debilitating injury as well as Steve's. Can she help them?

As usual, there is so much going on with all of the characters... however, I loved the story line involving Fenrir. She has been important in the story, and now she is facing a horrible injury - yet she manages to keep her spirits up and tries to go on despite it. With the experimental treatment, we see Fenrir grow into how she views herself!

Amy battles her ethics in developing a treatment... OK, I will not say more as you need to read this without spoilers - you will enjoy it more!

Again, Ms Gockel gets the action going at breakneck speed! We also are treated to even more Norse mythology as the situation demands.. and the characters are faced with more decisions that can have great consequences... The story moves further along as they try to prevent Odin from taking over not just Earth but the other realms. Read the series in order so that you will understand the nuances with the characters and their dynamics as well as where we are headed.

I loved this story, and I am already diving into the next book as I can't wait to see what happens next! The author has done a wonderful job of weaving a story where I am totally hooked! What more can I say? I love it! Read it for yourself!

1.0 out of 5 starsSome fun new characters, but old ones turning terrible (I still hate Bodhi)

Well, Steve has lost all good guy points I ever gave him and it’s only Ch1. Truly awful. I hope he dies horribly. Possibly at Loki’s hands, but I’m not picky. Unfortunately it seems he might be set up as the next incarnation of Preservation, so he’ll likely survive. Maybe that’s why he’s sudden extra-evil? Got to start channelling his inner-Odin.

Beatrice has also undergone character assassination this novel, which was very irritating. Is she possessed by Hoenir or just following instructions from him? Either way, it’s making Hoenir seem like the jealous ex who can’t handle the fact that Loki (and/or Bodhi) loves Amy.

Sigyn, Nali and Valli were fun. And Sigyn might just be the most awesome person in the whole series. Nothing fazes her and she’s just generally GOOD. Loves Loki, loves her kids, loves his other kids that aren’t hers, accepts and seems to like Amy.

The cliffhangers have ramped up even further - humans have magic, Odin’s in charge of lots of Earth governments and thinks he has all ‘known’ troublemakers trapped on Jotunheimr to more easily wipe out.

I still miss original Loki. Bodhi aka Loki-light-with-an-extra-side-of-jerk just isn’t cutting it for me. Amy’s flashbacks are the only good Loki :(

1.0 out of 5 stars No longer a fan

I regret buying these books, the editing process leaves a lot to be desired & the military scenes are just wrong. I ignored those things because I enjoyed the story & characters. I sent the author a message letting her know that I really enjoyed her books. I politely suggested that she might want to consider having a veteran proofread future works to make those scenes more realistic.

The mythology is meticulously researched, but I am pretty sure she has never seen a firearm in person & it shows. I was very polite and I praised her stories. Her replies were rude , enough that I regret reading stories I once enjoyed. I will never buy another book from her. I recommended that she turn off the messaging feature on her page if she doesn’t know how (or want) to handle anything but blind praise. I did praise her, but I politely pointed out how she might improve future works.

She writes about Bodhi being IN MOS with someone, as if it were a place. It is not the school where you learn military specialty after boot camp. AIT (Advanced Individual Training) is where you learn your MOS.

In another book, the ice caves when the characters are told to shoot tracer rounds to scare the Yetis and only switch to live fire and kill/injure them if the tracers don’t scare them away. Sorry, but tracer rounds will kill you just as dead, they just provide a pretty light show before they do. They are simply live rounds with a small amount of pyrotechnics in them.

Anyway, unless you get her books for free, spend money on another author who is a little more gracious to fans who spend their hard-earned money on their books. An author who is a lot more polite about polite suggestions from a fan who only wants to see the author become even better!

5.0 out of 5 stars Opening Pandora's Box

This series must be read in order. The first book is  I Bring the Fire Part I : Wolves (A Loki Story) . The second book is  Monsters : I Bring the Fire Part II (A Loki Story) . The third book is  Chaos: I Bring the Fire Part III (A Loki Story) . The fourth book is  In the Balance: An I Bring the Fire Novella (IBF 3.5) . The fifth book is  Fates : I Bring the Fire Part IV: The Hunt for Loki is On . The sixth book is  The Slip: A Short Story from I Bring the Fire . This is the seventh book.

Bodhi and Amy are on the outs it seems. And Steve? Well he is up to something that has him feeling INCREDIBLY guilty so he's no help. Beatrice doesn't like Bodhi and has gone all overprotective on Amy and that is kinda worse in many ways. Amy feels like she can not trust Bodhi as he lied about having a girlfriend in Nornheim (she wishes they could at least be friends again...they were even friends when he wasn't Chaos and was still just Bodhi) Bodhi has no idea why Amy has withdrawn from him and now he is always angry. A comedy of errors if there ever was one... Kinda like Amy and Loki in the beginning but Amy still doesn't know Loki loved her so all she does is doubt herself and her worth. Bodhi can't see how Loki could have possibly not loved Amy... Especially as he does and h doesn't even have Loki's memories. As I am sure you know from the previous books in this series this just sets the scene for all the magical mayhem to follow!

In essence this is a story about the revolution against the oppressor that we didn't even know we had. Odin feels he owns us and our world and will stop at n nothing to get us on our knees worshiping him as the All father again as we did in the stone age... Well Steve will not allow that and neither will Amy or Chaos! This story is a mad dash race against time to circumvent the enslavement of Earth with all the action, adventure, thrills, mysteries and absolute chaos the series is loved for! How will they stop Odin? Who can be trusted? Will everyone survive? And still the humor shines through on each and every page :) I absolutely ADORE this series and will be devastated when it ends but I still cannot wait to read the next book Ragnarock when it comes out!!!

***This series is suitable for adult readers

The First book in the series and I enjoyed the whole series. It is well written and easy to read because the story is entertaining, well written and flows so smoothly. Set in the modern day, Loki has escaped from prison and is plotting revenge because Oden has killed his sons. If you have enjoyed "American Gods", or "Another Fine Myth, or "Once Upon a Time" then you will enjoy this book and series thoroughly.

5.0 out of 5 stars A story about a pup (no really, think about it)
Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2014

What is there to say that isn't in the description or other reviews....Well for one thing I bet you didn't know Loki (Chaos) isn't the main character. This is not a series about Chaos and the world(s) around him, this is a story about a pup.

With her bi-pedal friends by her side, Fenrir inspires them to be more than who they seem to be. The old adage "Big things come in small packages" seems to fit this series so well. We already see here in Warriors that Fenrir has come into her own; after a major accident that could only be the forces of chaos spinning the wheel of random bad luck, Amy was able to patch her up. Thanks to Fenrir's brave and miraculous recovery, bigger and better things are in store for the human race.

I really don't know what to say about Warriors, I loved it, all of it, except the ending, the ending made me feel a bit cheated. Let me explain that, up until now, it hasn't felt too much like a season finale type of ending with each of the prior books. This last one made me feel like I was reading a cliffhanger finale, only this one is to be followed up with the actual finale. Here I was expecting a gentle slope ending like the others and then WHAM! end of book with no resolution to the current situation. How could you?! (Intended or not, it's brilliant!) I'm eagerly awaiting Ragnarok! Admit it, by this point we all want to know just how well Bohdi can dance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely perfect!

C. Gockel's "I Bring The Fire" series has been, honestly, one of the most satisfying, enthralling, captivating, exciting, heartbreaking and poignant reading experiences I've ever had the pleasure and honor of experiencing.

Her characterization, not only of Loki and the other, various Norse gods, but all of her supporting, original characters, such as Amy Lewis, Steve Rogers, and Bohdie Patel is simply perfection. But of course, the main focus is on Loki, and the exploration of his character, of his life and the events therein, has been extraordinary. Ranging in emotion from utterly humorous and enthusiastic, to downright somber and heartbreaking, I've found myself burning through each book in the series without pause, wanting to know what happens next at every turn of the page.

I find Loki's character in this story to be the perfect balance of chaotic trickster and tragic outsider. Mrs. Gockel never loses sight of those aspects of Loki's character that make him the god of mischief and chaos, encompassing so much humor and playfully deviant behavior, but ultimately harmless and good intentioned, while infusing him with so much sincere humanity and sympathy, that you find yourself only able to cheer him on and hope that, somehow, everything works out for him. His relationship to his children in particular, and his obvious love for them, and willingness to do anything to protect them, rings extremely true, and makes his plight within the story immensely heartwrenching and at times even difficult to read for the emotional weight of it. As does Loki's relationship with Odin, who through the course of the story we see, through the present and through flashbacks to his past, grow from Loki's hero and protector, to Loki's eventual disillusionment of, becoming instead Loki's abuser and tormentor, blackmailing and threatening Loki, very often through his children, into doing his bidding.

You find yourself wanting desperately for Loki to somehow break the cycle of reincarnation he's been subjected to again and again, and free himself from Asgard and Odin's clutches once and for all, praying that Amy and, if in fact Bohdie is Loki, are able to accomplish his freedom. And also for Loki to break free of his low self-esteem and lowly opinion of himself. To start to see his own worth, and not simply think of himself as what Odin and Baldr and so many other of the Norse gods have conditioned to. As a reader, you see the goodness of Loki's heart, even while Loki himself remains blind to it, and it makes you want him to succeed and find happiness all the more.

Just a beautifully done series. I'm currently working my way through part V, and hope it will continue on afterwards. A huge thank you to Mrs. C. Gockel for sharing, and I can't wait to see what happens next!

Just a word of warning. The appendix at the end includes the characters' deaths! One of them didn't die until the final chapter. I'm not sure what the author was thinking including such details. I usually like it when writers have a "cast of characters" page. Not here though. She basically "spoiled" her own book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loki, HERO you bet

There aren't many books that hook right off the bat me this one did. I have become addicted to this series and cannot read it fast enough. I am eager to finish the other books. If you enjoy fantasy novels, I suggest you give it a go.

The books aren't long and they do tend to cliffhanger but that doesn't bother me.

This book contains no sex scenes, and virtually no swearing. That said, it has adult situations, and mentions of mythological tales.

Interesting twist on the myths. Loki is the HERO. It was great to see Loki personified in these books.
The characters are richly drawn and it is easy to suspend disbelief about the existence of gods and magic. The slow reveal of more and more Norse mythology tie-ins to current day life was just really cool.

Ms. Gockel is proof that the self published authors can put out something every bit as good as the big name publishers. I'm keeping this author on my watch list.

Warriors: I Bring the Fire Part V  Absolutely love this series! Each of the stories takes us further into the adventure and into more change for Amy and Bohdi. I love that Amy has Loki's memories and Bohdi is,Loki reincarnated. I really like how when you think you've got the story figured out, you realize you don't know if you do because Chaos can change things for better or worse.
I am sorry that Ragnorak is going to be the end of the series as I have been following this story since the beginning and don't want it to end. It's a fascinating world the author has created with terrific characters you just can't help cheering for.
