Not up to Nancy Thayer's usual standards.

I am a huge Nancy Thayer fan. Given that, I find myself asking...did she really write this book? From the beginning pages, the characters aren't developed, the pace is way too fast, the plot not believable. A woman of 36 discovers her husband is having an affair and wants a divorce so he can be with a younger woman. There is very little emotional interaction between the two. She may as well have gotten a chip in her new manicure and been upset for a few minutes then moving on to other things. She takes her two children to a lovely beach house where she finds she is sharing the cottage with a young widower and his troubled son. Instant attraction...electricity, they want to ravage each other, etc. So much for her husband having an affair with a colleague and leaving you. The characters are unbelievable, the plot even sillier and overall a big disappointment. Granted, I was not looking for "Gone With the Wind". But I love Nancy Thayer's work and this isn't her best. Throw it in your beach bag and put your brain on hold. Not up to her usual standards.
