Random packaging, great value

I was very skeptical about how they packaged it... (see picture) so I had to make sure I got correct number of note pads.
I read some reviews talking about how thin the paper is, and let me tell you that it is thin. I have ordered this size as well as regular letter size amazon basic pads, and they are both thin.
If you are looking for a great quality one, then please go ahead and spend $10/pad.
However I am looking for affordable pads to write quick memo or for my kids to draw endlessly. So this is perfect. Very similar quality as what you would get from major stationary companies but with amazon service and prime shipping :)!
Very happy with the price and quantity I get.

Thin, poor quality, basically see through paper

I have been an Amazon customer since 2011 and I do about 100% of my purchases here unless it is food or clothes, and this is my first time writing a review just because how terrible these pads are!!!! Like before if I got a bad product I didn't care enough to write a review, but wowwww these are soooo low quality! I bought a package a few months ago and I LOVED the quality. They were the Amazon basics legal pads, quality of the paper was great, thick, smooth, but these, the second I took the wrapping off I could tell they are terrible. It is so so sad that Amazon did this because it's a shame! I really was hoping to get the same quality of paper my second purchase and I didn't. It is hard finding good quality legal pads and Amazon ruined what they had.

Cardboard backing is flimsy compared to other pads

I have always purchased my lined pads from Staples but decided to give these Amazon Basics pads a try. Alas, the cardboard backing on the Amazon pads is way thinner and flimsier than that on the Staples pads, which means that it's hard to use the pads unless they're lying on a desk or table. Not good at all for a situation where you need to be holding the pad unsupported by a flat surface. I'll be going back to Staples-brand pads.

Each page tears away cleanly!!!

Long live Amazon!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Each sheet tears off nicely, with out tearing the tops of the page! I know it is just paper, but you cannot find that simple quality anywhere you would normally think to. Instead of OfficeMax/Office Depot and Staples selling you quality paper products, i.e. Mead, PaperMate, etc..., they sell "proprietary" products which is code for lowering quality to save a buck in the short-term so that CEO's trick their Boards into big bonuses,even though in the long run the company has been damaged - Chrysler and GM and the "Bailout". Regardless, the paper tears away beautifully and the end of the world is staved of for a wee bit longer.

CORRECTION - The first few pages tore off cleanly, but after that, no bueno. Bummer.

Cardboard is super cheaply and ink soaks strangely

I got these to use for writing with my fountain pens inside a leather padfolio. The cardboard backing is really flimsy and cheaply made. It’s fine for a padfolio but using on its own wouldn’t be an option in my opinion unless you’re writing on a flat surface.

Another issue is the way fountain pen ink soaks into the paper. It seems like the other paper I’ve used soaks ink in much better while writing, which is important for fountain pens that work by drawing the ink out. Ballpoint pen ink is much more viscous and works differently so I think these would work really well for that use case. But fountain pen writing is really not as pleasant as others. I’m not sure if they have a coating applied or what, but I’ll probably look into other products before I purchase these again.

I usually purchase legal pads with three holes punched in them but decided to buy these because they cost less than my usual brands. The quality of the cardboard in the back is really flimsy. You can't have them stand-alone, you'd need a clipboard or hard surface to write on like a desktop. So for my purposes on the go it's not what I expected. I usually have this for on the go writing. For example, if you are an attorney and taking notes on your client in the waiting room of the courthouse that has no available places to write and your briefcase is soft leather you are out of luck unless you also have a clipboard or something to hold it steady. The paperweight or quality of the paper is okay but not the best stock. That said it is great if you are not using it in a professional capacity and have a desk or clipboard handy.

A bargain, but pages do not tear off cleanly

For the price, one can't complain (but this one can't give more than three stars either). The pages do not tear off cleanly. The perforation is poor and they are too close to the binding, not allowing the writer to fold to weaken the perforation. I have no complaints about the paper quality. Don't try fountain pens, but if your writing with gel or ballpoint, you'll be fine. If you just need pads of paper and don't care whether sheets tear off cleaning, consider this a four or five star review.

As we make our way through this box of notepads we are finding that some of the pads are great and others the paper has lots of blank pages.

We also noticed that the paper is pretty thin in comparison to a Mead pad.

If you are just using them to as spare paper to write on or let your kids scribble on I say it was a good buy. If you need it to take notes or anything that you need to keep then I say Amazon needs to step their game up.

I guess for the price I shouldn't have expected too much but these aren't very good note pads. They came all packaged together in shrink wrapped plastic and when I opened the plastic, a lot of them had wrinkled pages. I had purchased them to include with home made gifts so I wasn't able to use at least half of them. If you just need them for yourself, they would serve the purpose.

I Needed a More Rigid Backing

I should probably have read some of the reviews before purchasing, but with 4 stars and 1,808 customer reviews, for such a basic item as a notepad, I figured that it would be just fine. I needed to replace my set of yellow pads, which had a cardboard backing stiff enough to remain rigid when only a few sheets are left. Now, with the Amazon Basics notepads, the cardboard backing is much more flimsy. I wouldn't buy this product again. Instead, I'll look around for a product that won't necessitate my using a clipboard when writing my notes.

Misleading product name; otherwise sufficient

When I purchased this "legal" pad I expected it to be 14" long. That is how long legal-size paper is. The product name says "Legal" but the measurements are accurate--regular US letter-size paper. The product name should be corrected to say "letter" instead. Even the images on the product page are misleading. One is of an 8.5x11 pad and the other is an 8.5x14 pad. My bad for not paying closer attention--but what am I supposed to trust most? Words? Measurements? Photos?

Otherwise, it's a cheap pad of white lined paper and does the job. Nothing impressive, definitely only 16# paper vs 20# or 24# (typical copy paper weights). But they're a great price, so you get what you pay for. Just don't expect it to be "legal size."

These are OK but not what I am used to. I ordered because it was easier than going to the store but these are clearly made cheaply. The pads I have and like are made by "Docket Gold" and these from Amazon are only 45 pages of paper vs. 50 pages for the "Docket Gold". Most annoying for me is the pads of paper from Amazon have a much thinner back made of very thin cardboard so it feels cheap (which it is) when writing on it because it has no stiffness to support your writing. They are cheap so I guess it is back to "you get what you pay for" and in this case these are cheap but usable. Rony
