Headstrong Daughter and Mighty Highlander -- Can Opposites Attract?
Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2017
What an exciting set of books by Emma Prince! I have enjoyed each of the Sinclair Brothers books. The Reckoning presents an interesting of two main characters who quite reluctantly play their roles. Daniel Sinclair, third and youngest of the Sinclair brothers is assigned the task of going to Loch Doon (the Bruce's family home) and taking control from Laird Gilbert Kennedy. Kennedy is suspected to be unfaithful to King Robert the Bruce. However, Daniel learns otherwise after he arrives at the castle and learns of the sacrifices made by the Kennedy family. As if taking control of this important castle isn't enough of an assignment, the King requires Daniel to marry Kennedy's daughter, Rona. Neither Rona nor Daniel are keen on this idea but Rona, a very headstrong lass who has had her way, has not reckoned with the likes of Daniel. Daniel, over time sees how courageous, supportive, and caring Rona is of all members of the castle. Rona is a very caring person but she has a secret, one that could get her killed. She and Ian and Mairi Ferguson are secretly engaged in falconry. This dilemma is later solved but I will not get away the plot. Nothing comes easy for these two as a challenge occurs because an enemy seeks to take over the castle and claim it and all property as their own. In the end both Rona and Daniel play key roles in overcoming the threat represented by the dangerous and devious Raef Warren. Rona's stubbornness and refusal to "obey her husband's orders" enabled her to find then bring Robert the Bruce's army to the battle at Loch Doon in an attempt to save the day. If you want to know the outcome, you will have to just sit down and become a page turner like me!
