but it mini holder fits the handle just fine (and snugly)

This handle is OK -- it's really there so that if you accidentally touch the handle while cooking, you won't scream and / or suffer a burn. However, after the cast iron pan has been heated for a while, this thing gets hot. I definitely use a hot pad in addition to this when I move around my Lodge Pan. I don't fault the product for this, because it's touching cast iron and managing to stay within the realm of human tolerance despite the vast amount of heat given off. I did take the handle off during cooking once, and it cooled down quickly. Maybe more padding may make a difference, but that would also mean more material touching the pan and making it hotter, faster.
Note: I'm using this on the 10.25'' Lodge cast iron skillet. I know the description doesn't say it, but it mini holder fits the handle just fine (and snugly). I just leave this on the handle all the time to give myself some protection. But know, by itself, it's not enough for a pan that's gone through the pre-heating phase.
