How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we donโ€™t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsA Brutal Tale of Torture and Revenge
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on October 5, 2015
On the surface, this book is about a woman who is kidnapped and subjected to torture and degradation. Her fiancรฉ is also tortured by a decision he is unable to make. Yes, the scenes of the woman being subjected to horrific things are cringe-worthy, but I think the real story is about the two men who kidnap her.

As children, they were social outcasts. As so often happens, they were bullied because they were different: they didn't look right or didn't talk right or their parents were poor or they were bad at sports or any of the various reasons kids bully each other. They were both alone and were victims until they found each other. Once they had each other, they began to take revenge on their tormenters, presumably because they gained strength through the other one.

They honed their torturing techniques through the years until the point of this story is reached. We have no idea how long they have been kidnapping women. We know they kidnap beautiful women who are involved in relationships and this is something neither of them were ever able to have. So they get their revenge on the beautiful women who rejected them and on the men the beautiful women loved so the men would know the feeling of powerlessness they felt as children.

We all know bullying is very damaging to children. Most bullied kids do not resort to the revenge these two needed to get, but bullying makes kids vulnerable to many bad influences. Once they find someone or some group that accepts them, they often can't distinguish between positive and negative influences. They are just so relieved to belong. I think this story is a warning about the depths some damaged kids may sink to simply because they didn't wear the right kind of shoes

2.0 out of 5 starsSo confusing

Okay so overall I think the story was decent. But I didn't really understand why they just tortured an innocent person for no reason. Yes I know one of the two men got bullied when he was younger, so now he just takes that out on innocent people and tortures them? Really confusing. It would have been good if we found out the woman's boyfriend was also another person that bullied him in the past then the story would have made more sense. But overall I feel like the two men had no motives. This woman didn't do anything to them nor did the boyfriend. I guess that's the whole point of brining the horror aspect to the story but still I just wish that the girl or the boyfriend could have had more ties to the two men in the past. It would have made the story a lot better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Twisted Games, Desires, And Tortures
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on November 17, 2016

As we start off we are first introduced to our eventual killers and antagonists as kids, kids that are abused, bullied, and made to feel worthless. We are introduced to their origins and a sympathy for their plight. That soon shall change as we later meet them as adults. Even knowing where they came from and what they dealt with though we're still very detached from them never learning anything beyond their sick games and desires, we never even learn their names.

As we move into the main story we meet Ashley whom they've just kidnapped and are going to use for their fun, desires, and torture for her husband Matthew by sending him DVD's everyday of the actions and misdeeds they have acted out on Ashley with the warning that if he goes to the police or tells anyone else they will end her suffering now by killing her, if he does not and waits out their having fun with her they may let her live. Quite the quandary and dilemma Matt is in. It also makes you wonder just how would you handle things yourself were you put in this very situation. Something no one could truly answer unless God forbid they were in Matt's very place.

We live out each harrowing day, deed, and emotion with Ashley and Matt. This is a story that you can't help but be pulled in emotionally completely and be angered and saddened by the things that are inflicted on out protagonists. As ever Matt Shaw does a superb job accompanied by Michael Bray in giving a great story that pulls you in and entertains to the end. Matt Shaw in my opinion is the very tops of extreme horror authors with his capturing the genuine.

I very very highly recommend this book to fans of extreme horror and call it a can't miss. A very solid 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars HORRIFYING! Finished in one sitting!

A horrifying story by Matt Shaw and Michael Bray. When these two work on a story together you are taken to places you never imagined nor will want to again.
Matt receives a DVD that shows his wife being tortured. He is told if he notifies the police they will kill her, or he can wait until they grow tired of "playing" with her and they may let her go.
Torn between what to do, Matt and Ashley's days move painstakingly forward each in their own hell. His of mental anguish and hers of mental and physical brutality.
How much can Ashley take before the human body simply just gives up? How many more torturous DVDs can Matt watch before his beloved is released?
One of the scariest stories I have read. This is the stuff that haunts women as we walk in dark car parks or lonely streets. Will leave you looking over your shoulder for days or even months!

4 stars is only because of the length. I thought it was way too short. The story was gruesome and graphic in his usual style. The story itself I would give 5 stars, just thought could have extended a little

Intense and beyond sick... but that's why we read Matt Shaw, right? This book was hard to put down but there were a few unrealistic elements that prevented it from being a 5/5. A good read if you wanna go to the darkest of dark places! The warning on this book is warranted.

This is a sick little read. Disturbing but hey worse things happen every day. After the hell this couple go through...turning up to work doesn't seem that bad. Well not entirely at least. Having said that I read this during lunch breaks at work...it's definitely better people not knowing what I'm really doing on my phone during break. More Matt shaw please DID NOT disappoint

I finished this book in one sitting. Once I started this story there was no way I could stop until I finished every last page. The story is about a husband who's wife has been kidnapped and is being tortured. The kidnappers are sending him daily videos of the HORRIBLE things they are doing to her. They let him know they will kill her if he calls the police but there's a chance they will let her go if he keeps quiet. This is yet another amazing collaboration from these two authors. I loved it and highly recommend it.

I wanted to like this book. I love Matt Shaw's writing. This had a lot of potential, it really did. Ultimately, the ending fell flat for me. Not what I expected or wanted.
